Hi all, new guy here. I just got my BDRi yesterday from Zzounds, sounds awesome, I absolutely love the tone I'm getting out of it. Out of all the amps I've tested and played through I've never been happier with my sound.

I do have some problems though, first the reverb. It sounds great but when it's on there's a popping sound when I go from on to standby. I don't think that's normal. Turn the reverb off and everything is good. No popping. When I got it the reverb tank had come loose, I screwed it back down and while I had the back off I ensured that all the connectors and tubes were tight and nothin appeared to be damaged.

My next issue is the master volume. After about a half hour playing it stopped doing anything in the clean channel. The volume works for the clean channel but the master doesn't do a thing. The weird part is that it works fine on the OD channel. Has anyone heard of this? Seems like a strange problem but maybe it's common.

Either way I love it. I'll get it repaired or replaced, it was a blemished model that they had so I got it for a good price, I kinda expected it to work though. But I wanted to save a buck so I'm not too mad, it's still under warranty so I'll definitely get it fixed but if its something easy that I can do myself that'll be better.

I'm an electronics tech so I'm comfortable working on equipment and this is my third tube amp but other than swapping tubes I haven had to do anything else.

Thanks in advance.

Slight popping when switching standby on/off is normal. This has nothing to do with the reverb being on or off.

The master volume only works with the drive channel. It does not work with the clean channel. Read the owner's manual.

Thanks, didn't come with an owners manual. That's what I get for saving $200.

I feel retarded now, I could have sworn that the damn master volume was working on the clean channel. Well $@!&, now I'm happy.

Is it normal for the popping to only happen with the reverb on? I swear, I went from standby to on about twenty times and it only did it with the reverb on.

I also want to thank you, lurking on here and reading your posts about the Blues Deluxe is one of the reasons I really took a look at it. I'm going to try a 12ay7 in V1 to give me some more control over the volume like you suggested in another thread.

Reverb circuit has nothing to do with the standby switch.

Is the pop not due to physical vibration when switching standby switch. Those switches fender uses sure make a clunk. That could be vibrating reverb circuit, and with reverb volume on you will hear the chatter/Pop.

Every Fender amp with reverb I've ever owned since 1965 did this. Don't worry about it. It doesn't hurt a thing. You can always make sue to turn the reverb off if it bothers you.

Transients are typical; there is a modification for that. Biggest issue I've seen with the BD's from around 93 and/or 94 are the undersized wire wound resistors heating up. causing a solder joint problem and damaging the channel switching FET's. When it heats up it's kind of funny to watch it bounce back and forth between channels rapidly.

While you are correct about the solder joint issues because of the heat from the resistors, the resistors are not undersized, they dissipate about 2.5 watts and are 5 watt resistors. The channel switching is done via op-amps, not FETs.

Roman4405 has a BDRI and there is nothing wrong with it.

Sorry, just noticed this is the reissue model; on the original BD is where I saw what I relayed; been a while and my brain is healing. If memory serves me right, I up-sized to 470ohm resistors (think it had 220's originally), changed the J111 and the channel bouncing stopped.

J111 is a muting circuit and has nothing to do with channel switching. The BD did not come with 220 ohm resistors in the +/- 16 VDC supply.

Your memory might not be serving so well. :(

As BlueSky said,...read the owner manual!
