I am getting a good deal on a new 65 DRRI, actually I have been offered an eight pay and my budget is keeping me around the $1200.00 range. I currently have three tube amps. A BDRI, 95 Blues Deville and a Tweaker 15 head. I like all three of them, but now I am wanting something in the middle that I can just grab and go with.. The tweaker is nice and I have a 1 x 12 cab and a 2 x12 cab, but no reverb. I have a Zoom G5 that takes care of that problem and a whole lot more.

All of my amps have effects loops, so I will have to suffice for that and deal with the straight in approach with the Deluxe Reverb. I have hooked up the Zoom G5 straight in on my other amps and the delays sound ok after my over drives. I will probably get a Radial Big Shot ABY, it has a phase switch so I can compensate for the phase in the Deluxe and use both channels in that thing at once. I also have a Weber Mini Mass that should let me drive it a little harder to cut down the volume and get the tubes hot.

The drives I have are a Hardwire CM2, Fulltone Fulldrive 2 Mosfet, Big Muff with Tone/Wicker and also a EH Soul Preacher. Does anyone use any of those drives with a DRRI?

I am liking the all tube of the DRRI and it is not that heavy or large, so It should fit in the back seat of my small car. My Blues Deluxe and Blues Deville are both weight monsters since I re-speakered them, also the cabs I have for my Tweaker are a pretty good size as well.

I noticed the Jensen speaker in the DRRI, does that thing break in well? I like the C-Rex's and Texas Heats and will probably switch the speaker if it is to ice picky, but I would really like to keep it stock..

Having grown up in South East Texas I have seen more people playing through Deluxe Reverbs, Twins and Super Reverbs than I can count, so I am gonna bring back some memories with that thing sitting in my studio.

I also have a steel string acoustic electric and a nylon string acoustic electric, is anyone playing their acoustics through a DRRI?

But, I saw something, a Fender Pro Tube Series Vibrolux Reverb 2 x 10 in my price range as well. A little bit heavier and it is 40 watts, but damn it is looking good....

I use a line 6 pod in the normal channel, and use the reverb channel for my cleans. I get a lot of compliments for my sounds. It's a very versatile amp! Or if your in a club, you crank it for a nice distortion, like allman bros or Mike Bloomfield. I love mine.

I see Fender is running $100.00 off of the Deluxe Reverb's and a lot of other stuff. Way cool, might have to stick a Carbon Copy delay on that order..

Fulltone Fulldrive Mosfet + DRRI = TONE. Believe me, it is awesome. Running your delays after the od and in front of the amp works great. Can't go wrong with this formula. The DRRI sounds better than those other amps you mentioned.

majorbytes,

I haven't driven the Pro Tube Series Vibrolux Reverb 2 x 10, but the SFVR is quite an amp. Really, not that much heavier than the DR. The tone is very nice. The amp has a nice brown tone with a slow onset of OD. Very much like a bigger 6V6GT tone than a clean to ear-splitting loud 6L6GC tone. It's the ouput tranny. Coupled with a good pair of speakers.

I'd try one out before making a jump.

+1

Some responsibility for the Vibrolux Reverb's remarkable tone also rests with the under-spec power supply, which is shared with the Deluxe Reverb.

Well, I ordered the DRRI and a MXR Carbon Copy last week and I should have it on my porch Tuesday. I just got back from Glacier National Park and ready to play some guitar, after being off of the grid since last Wed.

I am hoping my guitars get along with that thing. I have four strats, all mexistrats. I have Dimarzio Area 58,67 and 61 pickups in one with a rosewood fretboard and Dimarzio Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues Two's with a X2N in the bridge in another one with a maple neck. Also got a Deluxe Players with the Vintage Noiseless pickups and a partscaster with Seymour Duncan SC-101 and a Hot Rail in the bridge. Got a Epiphone ES-339 for a gibby tone.

Gonna be some rocking come Tuesday breaking that speaker in...

I have two Strats equipped with noiseless DiMarzio's (soon to be three) and all sound great through my Fender amps, though none of them are what could be described as garden-variety factory-stock models.

The Vibrolux Reverb could arguably be called the Holy Grail of Fender clean tone. It has a dynamic response and touch sensitivity that goes beyond most other amps ... and it has cajoñes.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I had an original 66 BF Vibrolux that was awesome. I'd still have it if it didn't get stolen. It was a great sounding, reliable amp. There's something about two 10's. Nice tight and focused. I'd just put that amp amp a chair, use a EH LPB-1 boost for some dirt, and let it fly. I tried the Custom Vibrolux and it shouldn't even share the same name. Completely different amp. I knew it wasn't a reissue, but I thought it would at least have a little bit of the old Vibrolux vibe.

I too had high hopes for the CVR.

Pity......

Well I got the DRRI this eve. Worst sounding amp I have ever heard. Flat response. Rattles like a tin can. Reverb sounds like sitar. No bass. Hissy like a snake. Just kidding though.

I think I found what I have been wanting as far as a tone machine. This thing is great and it looks good sitting where my Blues Deluxe use to sit in my studio. Played it straight for awhile, then hooked some grit boxes, a EH Small Clone and a Carbon Copy, running through a Radial ABY to both cahnnels, WOW, that hit the spot...

I could not really get it opened up on the volume tonight, cuz the girlfriend is around, but got it up to 6 and tamed it down with a volume pedal. Sounds pretty good just stock and the Jensen speaker, I think is going to work just fine. It has a lot of bottom and the Strats with the Dimarzio's ring like a bell in that thing..
