I don't know if this counts or not but there is a third choice for *tube* mounting.

I was once tasked to maintain a large number of Soviet-made vacuum-tube radios (tactical transceiver types) from the 1970s and there were no sockets whatsoever. The tubes utilized soldered-in leads, connected directly to a turret-type board. And the provided schematics and tech manuals were all printed in Cyrillic. The tubes themselves were very novel, resembling a neon bulb such as you'd find in a simple continuity tester only much larger, with multiple leads fed through the bottom. Talk about "adventures in troubleshooting"!

Arjay I just built a small hybrid amp kit that uses the same tube you describe. It's uses a Raytheon JAN6418 preamp tube. You have to solder it to the board. The Anode Pin 1 is marked with a red dot and you just be sure it goes to the correct pad. I put rubber grommets on it because the tube is microphonic and will ring if it's struck. It's a pretty cool sounding amp and is pretty loud. I shock mounted the board with rubber grommets inside an old little tweed suitcase from the 40's that an old Aunt of mine gave me and used the speaker from my old Champ and replaced that with a Weber, which was a huge improvement by the way. The cool thing about the suitcase is when you leave it open it's an open back cabinet. I use it mostly with my cigar box guitars and low volume rehearsals.
Here's a link to the amp.

I'll take that, thanks. First we had Superman, then Batman, and now Hotrodman. Maybe I can have my own comic book.

Por favor, disculpe mi español, no se llega a la práctica con mucha frecuencia.

I don't know about a comic book but it appears that you already have a top single. 8)
