Well it was few days ago I got it but wanted to make sure it was going to be an amp I loved before I kept it. Always wanted one. Love the tone of a Les Paul on the neck pickup through Ch2 Vib/Verb. Adjusted bias up to about 23ma and sounds better. Changed a couple preamp tubes- Tungsol 12ax7 and JJ. The 6V6 Groove tubes are JJ's but have a 1 rating, and I like more clean headroom so I might get some different 6V6's. Chanded the wimpy thin speaker cable to a thick pancake end old Lone Star Mesa cable I had laying around. You really gotta get this amp up on a stand for it to project better but it cuts really well so far at practice.

I play strictly humbucker guitars so I'm leaving the bright cap that single coil people clip. Was maybe thinking about changing the speaker buy going to wait and break this one in a bit. With 20% off at MF making it $839 I couldn't resist.

Changed some preamp tubes to Tung-sol and JJ's.

Changed the awful speaker cable to a nice thick Lone Star cable I had laying around. The 6V6 power tubes are reliables JJ's but rated at 1. Was thinking about getting a higher rated tube cause I like more clean headroom. All in all I really love this amp and sounds huge hooked up to the Bogner 2x12.

Congrats on your new amp! With the right tubes and speaker a DRRI can create some really sweet tones!

Highly recommend TAD 6V6GT-STR for power tubes. I've also become a huge fan of the Mullard Reissue 12AX7, long plate, so they can be a bit noisy and microphonic, but that's what I like about 'em. The Mullard CV4024 (12AT7) are some of the best NOS tubes available today and can be found everywhere, highly recommended in V3 for the reverb driver and V6 (balanced).

As for speaker, you can't go wrong with an original Jensen C12N or a JBL D120F. Strat sounds wonderful thru this amp but my 335 and 345 really sing thru this amp, no pedal needed whatsoever! Just pure magic! :D

Here's what the amp sounds like with a Strat straight thru the amp.

Where do you have your Mullard 12AX7 reissue? I got one but didn't think to try it. I've always had great results in most my amps with a Tung-sol reissue 12AX7s.

V1 or V2, depending on what channel you like to play thru... it sounds good in V4 too, but not always.

Haven't had Tung-Sol RI tubes in a while, didn't really care for them and they had some reliability issues lately.

If you have the $$$ -- the Genalex B759/12AX7 re-issued have really been good in input sections. More of that old RCA tone. Only tried a few, so don't know about reliability issues.

You remember my earlier comment about tube purveyors?
