Hello all!

The Power Tube Brace in the back of my Blues Junior vibrates quite a lot in sympathy with an open A chord. I have removed it and it's quieter. Significantly.

Is there a risk of EL84s magically taking flight from their sockets? :)

Paul

They'll probably loosen over time.

Maybe the springs are vibrating instead of the bracket? If it is the bracket vibrating, maybe you have tube rattle. Either way, try some tube dampeners like these. I use them as a preventative measure, and to keep pressure on the springs that prevent the springs from vibrating.

Wow. Those are cool? Yes. It was the springs. When I damped them with my finger the ringing stopped. What are they made of? Where can I get such a thing?

There are many types, available at many places. There are a few forum members here that use similar dampeners. I get mine here (link below) and they have red or white, but the color doesn't really matter. These are made of "Aerospace High Temperature Silicone". Look for the correct size for whichever tubes that you want them for, and the thickness that you want. Using the dampeners will change the tone slightly, just a little tighter sound, and reduction in the natural ringing of the glass, subtle yet noticeable differences.

If it's the springs, I'd either shorten them a little to make them a little tighter or maybe get a tube of high temp silicone and put a dab in the middle of the spring to act like your finger to dampen the vibration. Tube dampers work great to prevent and sometimes cure tube rattle.

I just cut a tiny bit of foam rubber and stuck it in the end of the springs. That killed the vibration.
Also there are some grommets you can buy that will fit the holes that make contact with the tube. This will help as well.
I think they are sold on eBay for bottleing your own beer (used them for a long time and they won't melt)
