I'm really not a technically minded person so i'll give you a reply in as simple terms as i can. And to be honest, most folk on here are way beyond the £120 solid state stage. With all due respect.

Earlier in the year after not owning an electric for a few years, i bought an American Standard Strat, and i love it. I also needed an amp but the store didn't have any reasonably priced valve amps in so i thought i'd just get a cheap, fender solid state to tide me over for a few weeks. I needed an amp there & then you see & the valve amps they did have in were a bit out of my budget. So i got a FM25DSP. And for the money, it's a great little amp, it really is. The clean drive is very crisp & on the second channel, you can get a nice bit of crunch & overdrive on the Hotrod, Tweed & Blackface settings. The effects are pretty good as well, but i'd keep your pedals if you've got any.

I recently got a Blues Jr & i kind of miss the crunch i could get out of the FM25, but i'd take the Blues Jr over it any day. It's true, once you've gone tube there's no turning back.

In my humble opinion, if it's the effects & 2 channels that appeal to you then spend a bit, not a lot, more & get the Super Champ XD. You've got the best of both worlds there.

Hope that helps.

Spenny, thanks for the reply. The simple terms you spoke of are still unclear to me. I'm not very technical minded either but I know what I like when I hear it. Could you please elaborate on valve amp? I'm thinking you are speaking of a tube amp and if so, explain to me why tube is so much better than solid state? Also, explain what you mean by crunch.

Basically Sunburst, all i was trying to say is that, to me, the FM25 is an excellent amp for the price. By "crunch" i merely meant that it has pretty decent overdrive & distortion for an amp of it's price.

I'm a real novice when it comes to amp type discussions, i just like what i hear but tube amps are far warmer sounding. You can really hear your guitar through them & what you are playing as opposed to a digitally sounding reproduction. I don't post on here often but i do like looking on here for tips & hints and if you do a search, i'm sure you'll find a more detailed description of the differences between tube/valve amps (they're the same thing, i'm just a modest Englishman), but from my experiences it's only people who are into playing Metal that seem to prefer solid states to tube amps. Make of that what you will. Tube is not necessarily better than solid state, it's just your preference. It depends on the style you play & the sound you crave.

To be honest, check out the Super Champ XD i, and am sure most people would recommend. I may be wrong, but asking about the FM25, one would assume you're just starting out. I think the SCXD goes for about another $80, assuming you are American, than the FM25. Having said that, you could maybe look at the Vibro Champ XD which retails for about £20 more than the FM25 in dear old Blighty & at 5 watts is easily the equal volume wise of the FM25.

All i am saying is that these two amps, for the money, are far better than Frontmen or the FM series & represent serious VFM.

Good luck sir.
