Huh.

The only other thing I can suggest is to check the AC voltage between C26/R64 and C27/R65. Should be the same as at TP24 and TP25. Then measure the input at the grids of V4 and V5.

You missed it, already checked the AC and DC into pin 5, but good thinking. I agree that the OT is probably OK.

Next would be to check the heater voltage at pins 2 and 7, and maybe re-tension the tube sockets. The problem looks to be at the tubes themselves, socket maybe?

The heater voltage was fine during my initial tests, but i'll check it again when i get back in to town. I'll grab another amp too so i can swap the tubes side by side and verify instantly if i have something bad. I think i'll remove the sockets completely and verify from the backside that they are in good physical condition.

Thanks for your patience and help with this. if nothing else i will come out of this with a much better understanding of how the tube section actually works.

So. I gave up and shipped this thing off to a service tech friend down south. along the way ups crushed it and broke some traces on the board. I only shipped the chassis and still had the cab. I picked up a mojotone kit and built this aa165 bassman:

YES THERE IS A GOD!

You've probably got a better sounding and more reliable amp now.

Rawk on!

there will be a faceplate, it is in the process of getting powdercoated. blue is what i paint everything, and part of my bands color/logo scheme. I've put about 30 minutes on the amp with old tubes just to check it out. getting ready to put in a new set and head over to practice and jam out. this thing sounds pretty fantastic so far. having three knobs is awesome, i don't know why things get so complicated.

i paint everything blue:

can't wait to put the board infront tonight to see what they sound like together:

Now that's a most unexpected ending to a troubling situation. I would love to see a video demo of this new/old incarnation 8)

They actually paid up on the insurance. Pretty much covered what I put into the new one.

I gave it some playing tonight. I love the bass channel. got a little signal loss when i turn the treble knob on the normal side, have to give that a look. other than that, this thing sound great. I'm glad i went with this clone, it seems to pair well with the pedal board.

Your lucky they usually don't pay up on the insurance.
