Allen Amps are a bit pricey, but the components are first rate. Great kits.

+1!

Mission Amps offer some pretty solid kits as well.

I have this on the way, bought it in hopes of an easy fix, my guess bad tubes.
Should be here by the end of the week.

Even if its a O/T its still a deal !

The original owner just didn't want to deal with sending the amp to a warranty center

Blues...Great to see ya back on line! Fine amp pickup, even if it requires you cracking it open and doing a little chasing around inside it for that price. I love that color combo, nice choice...I think Cedar has one of these same amps.

Welcome back.

Thats a killer amp. Bad tubes sound right, but at that price even if its a little more involved its still a good deal.

Glad to be back posting here again.
The new house is slowly coming together and the To do list is getting smaller.
Buying a house from 1900 is kinda like buying an old Fender, Its old school cool but ya know your going to have to get out the tools ! LOL !

The DRRI limited run will be here tomorrow according to tracking.
The P12Q is going to be interesting, I have not been able to warm up to the Italian Jensen ceramics I've tried, The Alnico Jensen wannabees in my 59 Bassman LTD sound excellent so.........................

I'll keep you all in the loop.

Finally got the whole story from the seller.
The amp was blowing fuses, he replaced the fuse and the rectifier tube and it played for two weeks then went out again.

Bad rectifier tube socket ????
another cheap Chinese rectifier ???

I only have one mullard left and its in my Bassman

this is weird !
I have sound when cranked, but its very low output and very distorted.
when I put my bias probe on the power tubes it shows 0 MA on both tubes, its like all I'm hearing is the preamp and the power tubes have no output, the heaters are glowing in the botlles ???
I tried new rectifier, new power tubes, replaced a few weak pre amp tubes.

When i make an adjustment on the bias pot it does nothing, output tranny maybe ???

No obvious damage under the hood either.

still wondering about that rectifier socket.

Screen grid resistors?

BTW, if it is the SGRs, the output tubes are shot and I wouldn't try to use them.

While you have the meter out, simply check for correct DC voltage at each output tube pin.

I pulled the chassis again this morning my meter says the screen resisters are dead
everything else measures fine around them, my meter treats them as open (no circuit).

Should I continue to light it up and check my B+ with the 470K's being shot ???
Thanks

G'day Blues, when you say "open circuit"' I assume you are measuring across the 470k resistors using the ohmmeter setting and not trying to measure continuity?

Just making sure is all.

Yes the meter see's an open circuit, I just pulled the two 470ohm resisters from the board and still no reading on the meter.

Bugger to get that board up and out of the way for soldering !!!

Now I have metal Oxide flame proof 470's in 1 watt and 2 watts, the 2 watts are gonna be kinda big on that board however, i wonder if its worth the hassle ????
