Quick Background: Only noticed this very recently. I bought the amp halfway through April and it's working so well for me. I play a Gibson 2009 SG standard through it and a BOSS Me-70 pedalboard. I get the tone I want through the clean channel with the Boss (QOTSA distortion tone) but I haven't really touched the distortion channel up to very recently. I'm also only 16 so VERY inexperienced. This is my first really good amp and took me ages to save up for it!

PROBLEM: I put it onto the distortion channel and put gain on 12 o'clock and volume on 8 o'clock. I can hear the normal low buzz sound an amp makes with the distortion on and strum but everything completely cuts out and a very low clean sound is all that can be heard. After this I kinda mess around with the gain level and bring it all the way down and then bring it back to 12 o'clock. I try to avoid the cut out by strumming lightly and I hear the standard distortion sound but very quietly since I'm barely strumming the string. Then I strum normally and everything cuts out again!! I really don't know what's happening or how to resolve the problem. Not sure if it's a power tube that's damaged or something. I've transported the amp a lot as I jam every week with my band. Never dropped the amp and am very careful.

Suggestions please!! :(

Hi pandzilla,

Is the clean channel volume set very low when this occurs? Try turning the clean channel volume way up and try again. The reason that I ask is that it could be a poor solder joint in the channel switching circuit, and the vibration could be causing the channels to switch. If turning up the clean channel volume makes no difference in sound level when the drive channel cuts out, then it could simply be a dirty pot, or a poor solder joint on one of the pots, or some other problem, such as the V2 tube. You might even try a new tube in the V2 position.
