Hi there,

I bought a brand new Fender Twin Reverb 65 Reissue in Australia yesterday, and have just noticed that V1 (far right) 12ax7 tube does not have one of those stainless casings around it, like all the other small ones do. Is this a problem?
It must have come out of the factory like that because it was out of the box, and nothing looks like it has fallen off or anything.

In love with this clean though!

Any thoughts?

All six pre-amp tubes should be equipped with "J-channel" tube shields. These shields are intended to minimize extraneous noise and spurious RF interference that manifests itself in a number of odiferous-and-audible manners. Ask your dealer for a replacement.

Check the speaker magnets.

Thanks for the tip, it's not stuck to the magnet. I think it must have popped off, maybe during transport to Aus or something like that, and is missing.

It just slides over the tube and pops in at the top yeah? Is it a job I can do myself if I can get the replacement part?

Thanks again for the help! :D

The tube socket is equipped with an integral skirt, with a pair of apposed "nipples" around the base. The shield slides down over these using the J-channels as a guide, then you merely twist it a few degrees to lock it into place. Spring tension via the coil affixed inside the shield holds it in place. It takes about ten seconds and no tools whatsoever are needed.

Is it possible that the missing tube shield on V1 could be contributing to a rattling noise?
My Fender Twin Reverb 65 Reissue lightly rattles only on certain pitches - F#, C# C and occasionally other pitches.
I've tried tilting it and had a look around it, it's coming from deep inside the head somewhere I think, or perhaps the 6L6s.
It's frustrating seeing as I bought it brand new. I mean it's under warranty but it's a real hassle!
Thanks for the help.

Possible but not very likely. I'd check the amp over carefully and snug down any loose fasteners, especially the screws holding the speakers to the baffle-board -- they should be about 15 in/lbs (a quarter turn beyond finger tight). If you find nothing amiss with the amp or cabinet itself, it's probable that one or more of the tubes has loose elements within its glass envelope. No way to fix this -- they should be replaced.
