Hi Guys - So I've got a 1996 Hot Rod Deville.

1) Clean Channel is distorted after I turn it past 2-3.
2) 68MV at the bias point (ltoo loow?)
2) Checked all the suspect resistors (R57+R58) (R53+R54) (Ceramic R78+R79) (R61=R62)and every other flippin component on the lower smaller tube board every thing reads within spec
3) Tubes have been swapped (v1 through v6)
4) Deoxit all tube sockets
5) Reflowed all the solder joints (Including the tube pins of all sockets)
6) Reading 499V on the Power Tube Sockets Pin 3
7) On tube v3 187V on pin 1 and ZERO on pin 6???

Anyone ever had weird ones like this? Any other thing I'm missing?

Thank you kindly and staying positive :D :D

0 volts on pin 6 ; there is your problem , check R52, 100K and solder too. This resistor go to R51 winch go to R50 then to pin 1.
A power supply voltage of 419 volts is connected between R51 and R52

If you have 187 Volts on pin 1 you must have about same voltage on pin 6 .

Be sure tube V3 is good.

499 VDC on the plates of the power tubes is high given that the B+ is spec'd at 485 VDC with the bias set to 60 mV measured at the bias test point. 68mV at the bias test point is a little cold given the plate voltage you measured (499 VDC) but is OK.

stratele52 - I'll check those right now.

R50, R51 and R52 all read what the schematic says they should

Reflowed solder joints

Tested Pin 6 again......................

Still (0) Zero on the pin 6 V3.........staying positive though :D

Check R58. Either measure the resistance or check the voltage on the other side. May be open or a bad connection to "Y".

I understand you read resistor ? Ohms ?

Read voltages , before and after resistors.

Bluesky  - Ahhh!! R57 Has 490 but R59 has (0) Zero!!!!!

Can R58 be toasted even though I get a reading?

Thanks

You really need to read the resistors out of circuit for an accurate value. That's why its better to read the voltage on each side of the resistor.

This is now becoming hilarious.....replaced R58 because thee was VOLTAGE before and after now I have NO VOLTAGE on 57 or 58......LMBO I have to lave because this beast has been interesting.....BUT I LOVE THE AMP.

Time to step back, take a deep breath, and look carefully at what you are doing.

R57 / R58 have nothing to do with you V3 problem . Why do you work on these ? More than one problem ?

Take you time , these printed circuit are easy to break .

Ryan41018 complained of zero volts on pin 6 of V3. R58 is the plate resistor that connects to pin 6 of V3 and to the power supply. Either R58 is bad or a trace is broken between R58 and the power supply.

I posted a link to the schematic in my first post in this thread. Its straight off the Fender website.
