I have a fender blues jr.
i bought it 2nd hand about a year and a half ago and its a great little amp, as fare as i know its about 6/7 years old...could be more.
But iv been wanting to upgrade the speaker.
Just wanna know...
Is there must of a difference??
&
I'm a huge black keys/ dan Auerbach fan and would be "trying" to get something around that area of sound.

I don't use any overdrive or distortion pedals, i have the amp just at its breaking point so when i want something a little dirty i just have to pick hard.

Could anyone recommend the right speaker I'm looking for, iv been told to go for a jensen but what one?... I'm lost.

Thanks,

Seany

The only Jensen I'd recommend would be a vintage speaker made in Chicago. With the 15-watt output, a P12R or C12R would be ideal. Likewise, a Weber 12A125 or 12F125 would also be a significant improvement over the OEM driver.

Yeah +1 what he said..... I went down Weber road for my DRRI and never looked back. Great people to deal with as well.

With its small cabinet you want something that will give as much bottom end as possible.
I went with the Swamp Thang, but the Canibas Rex is supposed to be a good option as well.
I don't know if that will get you black keys territory since that's a more fuzz based sound.
This is my main amp although I'm not fond of its preamp distortion. I run the master wide open and use the lowest rated groovetube power tubes I can find. That gives me some sweet power tube breakup at gig levels.

As Eddie indicated and as a great many people already know, the smallish cabinet of the Blues Junior is a significant hindrance to getting good tone from the little amp. For $155 you can bypass that issue altogether with one of Carl's cabinets designed specifically for the Blues Junior. This is a much more direct and economical route to go to address this concern than the way I went and most people go which is to buy and install a bunch of BillM mods that only have limited success because the cabinet is still too small. There's only so much you can do with electronic parts when you're trying to overcome a physical limitation.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
