Does anyone know what the MSRP was on the pre-2010 blonde toltex Hot Rod Deluxe?
I’m looking at buying one used and want to make sure I can haggle well, but there is almost no info on these amps online anywhere.

Thanks
Brooks

Look on ebay completed listings and CL as examples of the going rate.

The MSRP is meaningless, that's not what they sell for. The HRDlx has been about the same price for the last couple of decades, and the "special" versions might be $50 or $100 more than the standard version.

The Blonde probably sold retail for about $770, while the standard version was about $700.

Used, in my area the HRDlx goes for anywhere from $375-$475 depending on condition. When I tried to trade mine in a few years ago GC offered me $275 and it was in mint condition. Like Lou said, the specials only get $50-75 more. Be aware the the only difference is cosmetics and usually a speaker change. Personally, I wouldn't buy a used HRD series amp without some sort of warranty. I had seven months left on mine when I sold it on Craig's List and my warranty got a serious workout while I owned it.

So you owned and used it for four years and five months. Sounds like you took a long time to figure out you hated it enough to sell it. You must have liked the sound of it, even with the fizz and more fizz. And the ice pick in the forehead. This has always sounded like bs to me. So you hate Fender and ridicule anybody who buys an entry level amp. BS

I originally played a friend's 1995 HRDlx and disliked it immediately. It was hard to comment without offending my friend. Sadly for me, he still likes it dispite the fact he spends oodles of dough on R8s and similarly expensive axes.

You can lead a horse to water but ....

These amps are popular because they are inexpensive. The clean channel on my friend's amp was (is) OK I guess but the dirty and more dirty channels sucked. Sucked Huge. My 2¢.

Every time I've tried a newer version they've seemed to be cheaper looking and feeling and sounding and overall less impressive and yet somehow still somewhat the same.

I am a firm believer that the amp is as much OR MORE of an instrument as the guitar. The more experience I aquire the more lean to the OR MORE side of things.

My advise: save your money and buy a real amp.

While you still can.

No, it either sat in my closet or on a techs bench for almost 4 1/2 years. I owned it but didn't use it. I didn't feel like going through the hassle of selling it. I do own a few other amps because I still play professionally. I do still rely on my gear because I make money with it. I doesn't sit in my living room or bedroom.

I don't hate Fender just the HRD series amps. I've used Fender amps since 1966. I was 11 and my Dad bought me a Vibrolux Reverb. GTG, I know you own one and love it. Good for you. Now I build my own. I don't personally ridicule anyone. If you don't like my posts, don't read them. You've been up my arse for a long time. I tried to make that POS work but I couldn't. As for the fizz more fizz channels, I never used them just like I never used the push pull master volume on my 76 Twin. I criticized and amp not your sister or mother.

Lately every time he comes on here he's sporting for a fight. You and I are not the only ones he's taken jabs at. He's one more snide comment away from my magic happy button.

Beemer I'll give him a gift
Here goes. He thinks I just sit in my bedroom wanking away at Smoke on the Water or something. What bothers me is neither one of us ridicules or makes personal attacks at anyone. Our comments are directed at the gear and people. If you only own one amp and you're happy, then be happy, but don't get upset if someone dogs your amp. The best thing about building your own gear is it's yours so nobody can comment on it.

If you own an older Hot Rod Deluxe, It's essential reading. Print it out and stuff it in the back of your amp because you will eventually need it. Especially the repair and modding sections.

I don't own a Hot Rod Deluxe, but I've read a lot of posts on them.

For somebody who doesn't own one you sure like defending them.

If by them, you mean someone who wants to or has bought an entry level Fender tube amp, then you are right. I think they have a right to some happiness and pride. As always, if they were experienced or had enough money, they might buy a high dollar amp. Or not.
