Hi there, I've been loving my HRD for about 3 years now. I've used it at gigs, practices, etc. and today, after an usual jam session with a friend during the week, I plugged the Hot Rod in my room for some Saturday room jams. However, I was shocked and very sad to hear a very fuzzy, harsh vibration/breakup when I hit certain E-string, low notes.

I took a small video to prove my point and not only did it captured my problem but it even made the unwanted sound worse and more compressed like a high gain fuzz.

You can notice in the video I even mess with other strings/notes but the problem seems to persist when playing the E string at low frets (around the E).

-I have already switched guitars with all kinds of pickups, and effects (straight input and through pedal board).
-I even plugged in a keyboard. The HRD seems to handle the keyboard's bass even better than the guitar's but there's still some slight buzzing.
-I already turned "presence" all the way down as I hardly use it anyway.
-Bass is at a comfortable level, and even at minimum or 0 levels the harsh sound can be heard.
-I switched the amp to another room and outlets in case it was an insufficient power situation but the problem still persists.
-Everything seems to be working fine on the drive channel even though I don't use it.

My main guess is the speaker. I haven't had this happen before or even had my tubes/speaker blown. Could it be my tubes?

At least my HRD's upgrade with better tubes, biasing and new speaker might come soon due to this but I'd really like to know if you guys have any idea of what this could be or how to get it fixed.

Thanks beforehand and thanks for reading!

Microphonic tube, cabinet vibration, loose screws, bad/torn speaker, etc. Try swapping tubes one by one, checking for loose things in the cab, speaker.

If you bought the amp new, you still have two years left on your warranty.

Agreed. One simple thing to do- and it is amazing how many people don't do this- is to just go around and tighten all the screws. There is a lot of vibration there and things come loose. Also, I would open up the back and clean it out in there. UNPLUG THE AMP AND LEAVE IT SITTING FOR 30 MINUTES BEFORE YOU GO STICKING YOUR HANDS IN THERE. I'M NOT KIDDING! I would check for loose connections, loose tubes, things rattling around, etc. I would also tighten up the screws in there as well.

It's amazing how much difference that can make.

I'd would also spring for at least new preamp tubes, maybe a whole new set.

If that doesn't take care of it, then have a tech look at the speaker.

just don't over tighten the speaker! If you warp the basket, you'll never get it back.
Also try another room. Could be something buzzing inside the room.
