for the past five months i have been saving for a fender amp. about four months ago i asked the board to give me information about the deluxe reverb and the custom vibrolux reverb . a few of you responded...and thank you.

now i am just eight days away from purchasing the amp. last night i played the vibrolux and the deluxe reverb, but also played a bassman and a super sonic because they are not that much more money than the vibrolux and the deluxe reverb. after playing all four amps my decision has now become more difficult...they all are great amps. each one has it's great attributes and maybe a few things i don't like.

this is how i view each amp:

deluxe reverb has beautiful clean tones, great overdrive and dripping reverb. however, i am concerned that becuse of it's 22 watts it may not have enough clean headroom. also the vibrato or the tremlo seems pretty weak.

custom vibrolux reverb beautiful clean tones, more subtle reverb than the deluxe, and great overdrive. super sensitive pick response and incredible vibato or tremlo. the vibrolux has quite a bit of hiss especially on the normal channel and maybe not enough clean headroom. also, if i buy this amp i will get a monster power pro 1000 to cut down on the hiss.

bassman incredible tone i absolutely love this amp...no reverb or vibato but i don't seem to mind....i can always use a few pedals. only downside for me is it is a little bulky...but seemed pretty light considering it's size.

super sonic really cool vintage voicings of the vibrolux and the bassman. both of the voicings are really close to the actual vibrolux and bassman amps. another plus is the versatility of the burn channel with dual gain i was able to dial in some heavier tones. also it does have nice reverb similar to the vibrolux. only down side is i am not sure if it is as reliable as the other three.

One thing i do know is that no matter which one i buy i will end up with a great amp.

i play blues first, but dabble in just about all other styles.

i havn't been a member on this board for very long but please offer any feedback on the four amps.

also, i plan on keeping the amp stock for at least the first year.

thanks and peace....

It should be. What makes the other 3 ampzs more reliable than let's say the Fender Hot Rod series, or any of the peavey tube amps, is that the tube sockets are not mounted directly on the PC board. In an amp like the hot rod, it is not an issue for most people, but folks that tend to swap their tubes a lot, or play for long hours (ie. days...), this can create issues in the long run, and cut into the amp's life. In the case of the super-sonic, as in the 3 other amps you mentioned, the tube sockets are screwed directly on the chassis, then soldered with the appropriate cables to the PC board - this method makes the amp way more reliable than having tube socket soldered directly on the board.

Good luck in your amp search ! After over a year of amp search & test drive throuhgout the country, I ended up with the super-sonic myself for almost the sme reasons you mentioned above.

so i went to purchase the amp about a week and a half ago. i decided since i liked all of them that i would buy one of them only if they had a new one in an unopened box. so i went to my local guitar center and told them i was going to buy one of the amps but i wanted one new out of the box. two salesman went to the backroom for a few minutes and returned with an unopened bassman reissue and an unopened deluxe reverb reissue. they opened both of them up for me and plugged them in. i played the bassman first and loved it. i then plugged into the deluxe reverb and couldn't get any sound out of it even after the salesmen messed with it. obviously it had been damaged during shipping. so that's how i ended up purchasing the bassman.

i am really satiisfied i love my new bassman...great tone, awesome touch sensitivity, it's built like a tank...and it gets really loud if i need it.

:D

OMG don't get me started on the Bassman. For me that tops all other Fender RI amps out there at the moment.

captain eyeball - even if the Deluxe would have worked, it is very difficult to forget the tone from the Bassman once you plug her in first :)
In my case, I had GAS for the 59 Bassman LTD for over a year, until I finally got the money to buy one cash. When I did, Fender came out with the Super-sonic. I took me another 6 months fafter or me to travel (for work) and test drive almost all of Fender tube amp at the time (summer 2007) and bought the super-sonic over the bassman, mainly because I wanted pure tube tone from the amp, not from solid state pedals, and could not have lived without tube driven reverb from the amp. With such great classic reissue amps or modern amps by Fender, it is really difficult to find the right one. I'll admit that the 59 4x10 bassman sounds better/fuller than the bassman in the super-sonic. Any tube amps from the Pro or Vintage series from Fender are very good choices either way. Hope that Bassman inspires you ! I know one day, I'll have one too - sitting beside my blonde super-sonic :)

God, I miss going out and trying every amp in the shop, pushing the volume to see when it breaks up. It's brilliant when you see little kids just STARING and their parents saying "I bet you want to do that". Yeah.

so far i really love my bassman... 95% of the time i just plug right in with my strat or tele and i am amazed at how many different sounds i have been able to achieve. also i have had a fdr-1 for about a year and the reverb and the vibrato from the fdr-1 sounds great through the bassman. in fact i cant wait to get home so i can power up the bassman and let it rip
:D :D :D
