I'm not sure how the watts, ohms, etc all works, so I wanted to know if the 1x12 cab would work on the 100 watt head? Or would I have to have the 2x12 cab (which costs more)? Thanks.

The speaker has to be able to handle the wattage from the amp, so if the amp is 100 watts, the speaker should be at least 100 watts, preferably much more. I wouldn't use a 100 watt amp with anything less than 150 watt speaker(s).

1x12 cab is only rated for 30 watts.

2x12 is 60 watts.

Even the 4x12 is only rated for 100 watts.

The only one that could be safely used (if you don't crank the amp all the way) is the 4x12 and that is pushing it. Poor design choices if you ask me.

Yeah, that is stupid.

Well, I guess they are assuming that anyone using a 100 watt head would buy a full stack of 4x12s because a half stack will handle the 50 watt head no problem. So you either need to trade your 100 watt head for a 50 (who needs 100 watts these days anyway) or save up for a full stack. 8)

The reason I'm getting the 100 watt is because of the stupid volume issue on channels 1 & 2 on the 50 watt. I owned it, I was mad that I'd have to buy some midi device to fix it, so sold it. Now I'm getting the 100 watt head for the same price as a new 50 watter, so I had to jump on it. But I like the convenience of a small cab. Yes, I want my cake and to eat it too! :)

Decided to buy an Eminence Swamp Thang speaker to put in my 1x12 cab. Hope it sounds good. Both should arrive Monday.
