I just purchased this amp and I notice that when I turn it on it is quiet, however, when I plug in my cord I get a low hum coming from it. If I plug the cord with the guitar attached, a Fender Stratocaster, I still get the low hum even an low volume and all other knows turned all the way down. I have tried placing the selector switch on the guitar in different positions (all 5) with the same results. Not sure if this is common but it is sure annoying.

Thanks for any help,
Rich

Hi rpvinny,

Do you have another guitar and/or cable to try?

It could be the guitar. Maybe a loose connection in the guitar, or ground problem in the guitar.

The input on the amp is a grounding/shorting jack that grounds the input with nothing plugged into it. When you plug in, the amp can produce sound. If you plug a cable in with no guitar connected to the cable, hum is normal as the amp is producing the sound of an unconnected cable. When you connect a guitar to the cable, the hum should stop and if not, that indicates a possible problem in the guitar, such as a bad ground in the guitar, or even a problem with the cable. Are you sure that you are using an instrument cable and not a speaker cable. Using a speaker cable into the amp will cause some very nasty hum.

I have two cables, both are labeled Fender on them so I'm sure they are guitar cables, the guitar is brand new, USA made Fender Stratocaster, so I'm hoping its not a problem with the guitar.
