Hey everybody,

I bough a tweed Blues Deluxe Reissue from GC around the end of 2009, start of 2010. It has been a great amp until I noticed some problems with loss of tone so I bought all new Groove Tubes for the amp, 3 power 2 pre, and the tone was a LOT better, but now (and it has been around for a few months), I have a low frequency LOUD hum that is quite a nuisance. The indicator light is also quite dim, and the tubes get way too hot too fast. My band mate proposed that it may possibly be a bias issue, but I don't have the extra money to take the amp into a shop to get biased. Any recommendations on zero cost fixes I can try at home? I have a soldering iron.

Thank you

-Nick

A dim pilot lamp is usually indicative of a power-supply issue. The bulb in this assembly is powered by a 6.3 VAC tap off of the power tranny -- and it's also the same run that provides heater voltage for all of the tubes. The power tranny should be examined and measured for proper output. If no problems are found there, trace down the heater wiring and check every tube socket for any cold or fractured solder joints.

It is best practice to always check the bias with a change in output tubes. The tubes are supposed to be very hot, not sure what your reference for temperature is though. If the tubes are hotter than they should be, (normal is still very hot) then you might well have a bias issue.

Por favor, disculpe mi español, no se llega a la práctica con mucha frecuencia.

I agree with above posts. Unless you have the equipment and know-how to check voltages and idle bias... you maybe shooting in the dark, trying to find the problem.

The amp's symptoms does not lead me to believe you have a one simple fix solution.

You have a good DVM? And can read a schematic?

Unfortunately no I don't have any of the necessary tools to measure that type of thing. I was hoping there could be some type of quick fix, but what was I thinking, I have a tube amp. Haha. I may be better off taking it into my local shop.
Thank you for all the info!

When you put power tube without checking and adjust bias you may damaged tubes and now they draw too much current and do the trouble you talk about .

Be sure to see a good tech if you want a good job and a long tubes life .
