I'm thinking of getting a Blues Junior and trying to compare the various speakers that come with the models currently in production.

  • BLUES JUNIOR™ III | 12" Fender® “Lightning Bolt” Design by Eminence®
  • LIMITED EDITION BLUES JUNIOR™ III "RED NOVA TWO-TONE" | 12" Eminence® Wizard™
  • LIMITED EDITION BLUES JUNIOR™ III "SILVER NOIR TWO-TONE" | 12" Eminence® Wizard™
  • LIMITED EDITION BLUES JUNIOR™ III "AFTER THE GOLD RUSH" | 12" Celestion® Greenback G12M
  • LIMITED EDITION BLUES JUNIOR™ III "CREAMY WINE TWO-TONE" | 12" Eminence® Cannabis Rex™
  • LIMITED EDITION BLUES JUNIOR™ III "NAVY BLUES" FSR | 12" Celestion® Vintage 30
  • LIMITED EDITION BLUES JUNIOR™ III "CHOCOLATE TWEED" | 12" Jensen® P12Q with Alnico Magnet

There's some good info on the BillM site - especially about mods - and I've read the descriptions of the various speakers. I've also looked at some You Tube videos but would love to hear from those with first hand knowledge.

Thanks & Cheers!
BM

I put a Celestion G12P-80 in mine. A bit overkill but it sounds pretty darned good, beefier and somewhat smoother than the stock Eminence gold label. Using my BJr with a 2x12 speaker cab with V30s, I was surprised that I didn't like the tone, as I love the tone of these speakers with nearly any other amp, especially great with a MB TA-15 head, and very good with a Bassman head. I guess that the V30s need to be driven harder than the BJr can drive them to get great tone, or maybe it was the 4 ohm impedance? Not sure.

If I try another speaker with the BJr, it will probably be the Eminence Red White and Blues; If your idea of electric guitar is crisp, bright, staccato bursts, clear, sizzling chords, with lots of top-end sparkle and tight, tight bass, this is your speaker. <----sounds like my idea all right. :) Of all the speakers on your list, the only one that peaks my interest is the CR.

I think that you definitely should do just that. 8)

Thanks for the feedback, shimmilou.

The only models I've tried are the standard one and the Limited Edition Blues Junior™ III "After The Gold Rush" with the Celestion Greenback G12M . Of the two I definitely prefer the sound of the latter. However, I must admit that testing conditions were less than ideal. I manged to get in a few licks whenever the young headbangers took a break from their power chord workout to change settings on the 1,000 Watt Marshall Double-Stacks they were auditioning.

Hopefully I'll be able to try out some others but given the limited availability this may not be possible. Then again, I'm not completely convinced about the BJr but that's for another thread.

Cheers!

I turned my Blues Jr into a 2x12 combo and I'm using Scumback M & H speakers from Southbay Ampworks.

That's a real classy looking combo you have there CAFeathers. Did you make it yourself? A amp cab is on my list (long list) of things-I'd-like-to-make-but-never-get-around-to-making.

    Cheers!

I know what you mean. While I await news from Dr. Fender on the diagnosis of my HRD, I managed to try out a couple more FSR BJrs. I was able to AB (actually ABCD) four models including the stock. The Creamy-Wine Two-Tone with the Cannabis Rex as well as the Two-Tone Green Eagle with the“ Screamin Eagle” were at the top of the list. The difference in sound quality between these two models and the stock BJr and like the proverbial night and day. (Unless I missed it, I don't think the Two-Tone Blue and Green Eagle models are currently listed on the Fender site).

I think it'll be a toss-up between the Cannabis Rex & Screamin' Eagle".

    Cheers!
