So, is Fender going to 'fess up to this Supersonic mess and release new versions of the SS series so we can sleep easy?

The SS22 I bought has now been a month out of my hands, after I returned it to the store, who returned it to Fender, who returned it to the store, who returned to Fender.

What the ***k are you playing at?

Perhaps it's time to cut your losses and try an alternate model or even a different brand altogether......?

I think that is a highly likely course of action.
Of course I will lose on the hard case I bought for it probably.

I am looking at the DRRI and higher powered Fender valve amps but I just don't think I could go through the same pain again.

In that case, you might want to check some threads about the newer DRRI first. :(

At GC the other day, a guy was playing a SS, big one in blond with white knobs, not sure which version as I was looking at other amps, and it sounded terrific, great reverb, no noise at all between strumming.

...like the thread on TDPRI about the new DRRI circuit board mess work around for exported amps

http://www.tdpri.com/forum/amp-central- ... erb-2.html

Fender are really messing these amps amp.

Is it possible the SS series problems are similar to these substitute component issues shown in that thread...?

Whichever way, what a nightmare.

It's not only the models intended for export -- all DRRI's have this additional board for the tremolo circuit.

Welcome to the new FMIC......where profits are "job one".

You might be right Retroverbial, about the profit thing. Although it's hard to believe that the new board with all the surface mount stuff could be cheaper than a LDR or opto isolator or similar type device. :?

A story I read somewhere indicated that an ignorant committee of EU technocrats found some obscure-and-arcane material in the traditional opto-isolator trem roach that may have violated RoHS compliancy.

Fender sells at least a couple of hundred DRRI's yearly to european customers and they certainly didn't want to disappoint those clients.

So they chose to compromise the amp's design instead.

I don't know what business model FMIC is operating from now but its creator should receive the Nobel Prize......for stupidity!

Ah, perhaps those technocrats would be the EFSMI*. I believe that there is approximately 0.07 Courics of this material in each of the original trem roaches.

I just brought home my THIRD Supersonic 22. I would normally NEVER put up with this kind of crap. I've been hoping against hope that I can luck onto one without the well-documented issues, because the amp sounds so damn good otherwise. This one, according to Fender, was made in August of 2012.

Nope. Hum, hiss, channel popping.

I heard from a tech that Fender is discontinuing the SS22. I noticed today that the SS22 page on the Fender website "cannot be found." Simply a broken link, or...? If I call Fender about the issue, and the status of the amp line, they act like they're protecting national secrets from Al Qaeda. (Which I understand that they, sort of, are. Still...)

NOTE TO FENDER: I've been a true-blue Fender guy for decades. I still own my very first amp, a '62 Tweed Champ. I also have an original Blues Deluxe and a Super Champ X2. I've owned a BF Super Reverb, a BF Twin and a much-missed Tweed Deluxe. I'M NOT THE ENEMY. If you keep treating your loyal customers like this, we have no choice but to look elsewhere for the sound in our collective head -as in, "Hello, (music dealer), do you carry Mesa amps?" (Or, whatever. You guys know what I mean)

+1000

I just got "my" SS22 back for the second time. Apparently the Fender wizards think there is nothing wrong with it. That's good for them because now they have it back again and they cab use it as a flower pot - that gentle hiss is surely some kind of insect repellent. I am (was) also a Fender lifer. But I am demoing Bad Cats this week. Overall I am sad but of course incredibly hacked off with the whole thing.

Perhaps it's time to take a look at some vintage Fender stock......?

Use pedals for modern channel-switching and OD/distortion features -- that's what I'm doing (and have been for nearly two decades). I've had some stompboxes crash and burn over the years but no old Fender amp has ever let me down.
