hello-i am attempting to build my first cabinet! i have an eminence texas heat speaker that needs a home, and i want to build a cab the same size as my blues deluxe reissue. i have some decent wood skills.

any info as type of material that would be good, or anything else is appreciated. i have grill cloth, and might just paint the cab black. i work at a major home improvement store and have access to many types of wood, but i am hoping for some advice on what would be best to use.

thanks for your help

Arjay,

I suggested to phreddybee that he post here and that you would be a good source along with others that frequent this forum. :D

One suggestion I can think of is to increase the depth of the cab (to increase your cubic footage) compared to the combo and make it a closed back. You'll find the rig will have improved bottom end and a sweet expressive breathiness to it. Open back combos with closed back extension cabs are a great sounding combination.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

great point- i do plan on a closed back. maybe slightly bigger, with a slight slant to the front

Pine-plank construction with finger-joined corners will produce the strongest, lightest, and most resonant cab for "tactical" (ie: portable) use. Increasing the internal volume by enlarging the overall depth will produce a tighter, more defined bass response with a sealed back though you might find the enhanced LF a bit too "boomy" for guitar (adding a port to the front baffle or using a partial back panel can be used to tune out unwanted spikes). Your Texas Heat speaker should perform well in such an enclosure.

HTH
