So, I get my Super-sonic and pretty much like it a lot. I have the 1X12 combo and I sometimes use a Mesa Boogie 2X12 extension speaker cab with it. A strange thing happened when I first played it and has reoccured after a few months. I'm playing along at moderate volumes (3-4 on the Bassman burn channel) and I get this loud noise. Its kind of like the speaker is popping out of its cone, but with a loud sound with it. I immediately turn it off, and when I turn it back on, the problem is gone. For a while. It did this the first time I gigged with it and kept doing it every few minutes. I thought it might be a reverb problem, but I'm not sure. That night I had the amp tilted back on its legs. I stood it upright and the problem didn't come back. Last week, and after several months, it happened again. This time the amp wasn't tilted back. I also thought the tone was going away. I play the riff on Secret Agent Man, and the tone was weak and thin. There didn't seem to be much difference between clean and burn. I finally had to use my backup amp for the third set. I just retubed the amp, so that's not it. (The same thing happened before and after the retube. Any ideas that I might be able to fix? Otherwise, it goes to the shop. I should say that I bought a demonstrator that had been at the store quite a while.

I am not an amp tech, but I have experienced something similar with my blues jr years ago.

What can cause a very loud noise, often refered as "the amp crakles" or "poping noise" is caused by a solder joint gone loose (i.e. un-soldered), most likely a solder joint that has gone loose on one of the tube socket. The louder you play, the more vibration this will cause to the chassis, and the solder joint issue will only intensify. Having it on the tilt back legs sometimes simply puts more "weight" on the tubes/tube socket, and it keeps the solder joint firmly in place even if it has gone loose/unsoldered.

It can also be caused by a bad resistor.

Bottom line is, your super-sonic is still under warranty and your local Fender repair shop should be able to test each solder joint and find which one needs to be re-soldered firmly in place, or which resirtor should be replaced.

Please let us know how your amp tech made out and good luck!
