Hello all,

I played this 1992 Fender Sidekick Reverb 65 the other day.

http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/msg/3705958107.html

I am wondering what anybody knows about this amp. I am unfamiliar and can't find much about it. The seller claims it is rare and hard to find, but I am not so sure. The amp seems to be legit and I liked it when I played it but I don't want/need to pay a premium for a rare amp so I am not going to offer what he is asking. I need an inexpensive 2-channel SS amp to rehearse with my band (I am tired of schlepping my rig to and from rehearsals). It seems like it'll do the trick but I wanted to see if anyone here had any input before I make an offer.

Any info/insight you folks might have will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Bill

Don't pay too much because good chance many parts ( transistors) are not avalaible today.

Google Fender sidekick 65 and you'll read some information

I owned a similar amp called the "Sidekick Switcher" for over a decade and it was a solid-and-reliable performer. These amps were made in Japan then later in Taiwan, and were equipped with Eminence speakers. Despite the small physical size, they're quite loud. The seller's asking price is about average for these amps.

You'll find little corporate acknowledgement of even the existence of these amps since they were designed and marketed at a time of great upheaval within the FMIC organization. Basically they were sold as a stopgap line until Fender got back on its fiscal feet after the employee buyout and restructuring of 1985. The fledgling parent company had little manufacturing capability for guitars and even less for amps subsequent to CBS's divestiture -- thus, they turned to Fender-Japan to carry the water until new facilities were built.

I own a sidekick 35 of the same era and I still bust it out once in a while just for fun.It was much easier to schlep around than my twin for practice back than and was plenty loud. Not a bad little SS and the reverb was nice.I guarantee the 65 will be loud enough for practice. If the price is right...... go for it.I don't believe they are as rare as the seller thinks though so I wouldn't offer too much.I can tell you that I still have mine 20 years later and it still works.

I had a Sidekick 65 Reverb and only got rid of it because I had Concert (II) for gigging that I like much better and just didn't need two amps at the time.

It was a great amp, was PLENTY loud enough to gig with. The reverb was very good for a SS amp. They were not that rare, and the price was about right if it is in great shape. As Arjay stated the amps are quite robust, never had a problem with mine at all and I know a guy who still has his and never had any problems in all these years with his.

They were made in Japan and again Arjay is correct they were gap stop amps while FMIC found a suitable location to produce amps again and information is sketchy from Fender on them. Good Luck.

Those things are built pretty well, you'll know when you pick it up it's not like a lightweight Chinsey amp of today. I have jammed with a guy who has one and they sound better than you would expect. And hey, it's 165 bucks. Go snatch it up!

Thank you to those who have posted. I am pretty close to getting this (possibly this evening). Anybody else?

I picked it up earlier this evening and played it a while with some friends. I like it. It will serve it's purpose in the bands practice space. Lots of headroom for a 65 watt SS combo. Will also serve as a nice plug and play back-up for my main rig. Nice fender clean and the lead channel sounds good to me so far and I will continue to dial it in some. For $110 bucks, I am happy as a clam. It is pretty heavy though for a 1x12 combo. Thank you all for your input.

That's because it's built a helluva lot sturdier than say, an FM65R.

Rawk on!

Damn Straight They Were:!: They had solid pine cabs and lock joint corners IIRC.
