Well I think Twins sound great at low volumes, so I think you'll be happy. Have you tried just removing the V1 tube altogether and using the vibrato channel? Try that out and see if you like what you get. It will drive the preamp tubes a little more and I really liked how it made my amp sound. It's subtle but you'll probably notice more sustain, and a warmer tone.

I did do that and I liked the results, but another thing I really like about this amp is the Vibrato and I want to utilize Channel 1 and 2. I'm pretty confident that a speaker change is going to put me right where I want to be. I'm currently looking into Sheffield 1200's, which is what comes in the old 5150 combos and cabs. They are cheap and do what I want.

For a distortion pedal, I am using a Radial Plexitube, which is why I think a V30 type speaker should work and get the desired results.

V30's have an upper midrange spike which is extremely hard to dial out with the EQ in my experience. Maybe the sheffields don't have that, but In my opinion a V30 is not a good match for a twin. V30's are also very loud speakers. I suggest an Eminence tonker, which is a copy of a Celestion G12m 65 if you like a more British type tone. They also are not as loud as V30's. For example, I used to use a Mesa cab with V30's with a 50w Marshall head, and it was too bright and too loud. I switched to a Marshall cab with G12m65's and Got much warmer tones with a mellow top end. Also, to get the volume I had the amp on at 3&1/2 with the V30's I had to turn up to 5 or better with the 65's. this allowed me to drive the amp more and also yielded much better tones IMO. I put Eminence Texas heats in my Twin and they sound incredible. Can't say enough good things about them, and they were only 130 bucks for a pair from zzounds. That's less than I've paid for a single Celestion and the quality is top notch.

Thank you for the advice. Listened to some sound clips and I'm trying to get my hands on a pair of Texas Heats right now and hope to have them tomorrow night.
