I know I may get chewed up for this, but this is an important question for me. I currently own a Victoria Bassman based on the 5F6-A circuit. I was hoping someone could tell me the essential tonal difference between the 59 Bassman and a BF Super Reverb (besides the obvious of the SR having on-board reverb). I know the SR is capable of ALL that smokin' low end that I enjoy so much.

I'm thinking I may need to source one. Why am I even writing this?

There is absolutely no comparison between the design and sound of these two amps. They are totally different.

Bluesky,

Do you find DIY and boutique Bassman clones run higher plate voltage on the gain stages and output tubes? And sound a bit different than the original tweed Bassman. Esp those that ran 12AY7 and 5881s?

Thanks!

Well, first of all, even a vintage 59 Bassman is going to have higher plate voltages today than back in 59 simply because of the difference between the power line voltages then and now (117 VAC vs 120+ VAC). I have read that the Victoria 5F6A clones run at higher plate voltages. I took plate voltage readings on my 5F6A clone when I built it, but did not document them in my build thread. My 6L6GC plate voltages are 429 VDC at a plate current of about 48 mA (my chosen bias point). I also run a NOS JAN GE 12AY7 in V1. I have considered getting a pair of NOS 5881s but just haven't gotten around to it.
