hi,

I recently bought a HRD III which is awesome. For now I wont be using my JSX combo and I was wondering if I can hook the Fender into the speakers of the JSX? if so what impedance should I use?

http://www.fullcompass.com/product/413563.html

Link above is info about JSX. I have in the past hooked a Mesa TA15 into speakers of JSX amp. so assumes it will work.

Im cautious as these are two awesome amps and I dont want anything to happen.

Cheers,
Eric

Read the HRD III owner's manual. It tells you what you can hook to the amps external speaker jack and how to do it.

Bill,

I have read the manual already, page 7, I still have doubts with regards to what could happen
if I connect to serial vs parallell connected speaker and OHMs etc etc. I also dont know what is meant by "open plug" in section V on page 7.

ah, open plug might mean a plug that goes nowhere. The way I look at this I have 2 x 8 OHM speakers in the JSX, that ll add up to 4 OHMs and thus scenario 3 om page 7 here:

That implies it cant be done. So this is where someone with proper skills can intervene and let me know.

Bill does a very good job at this, but I will post a few useful diagrams. If one has two speakers in a cabinet and one in their amp and ohmages differ and present problems, there are some work arounds. I have a 4 ohm Bugera amp. It is a robust little critter. I currently have the stock 4 ohm speaker running with and 8 ohm in parallel via a wire from each of my terminals running in a parallel hook up to my external 8 ohm speaker in a separate cab. This presents a 3 ohm load to my amp. It says 4 ohm is the minimum. I have dared to show it 3 ohms and it has rewarded me with a rich sound via the two different speakers and more air moving.

I am thinking of getting the new Eminence 8" hemp cone speaker, because of GAS around it. They only come in 4 ohms. That would leave me with two 4 ohm speakers and an 8 ohm. My solution, should I pursue this project and insist in running 3 separate 8" speakers, would be the following: Put the two 4 ohm speakers together wired in series to raise the ohms to 8. The 8 ohm speaker would be in the Bug. Taking a parallel wiring from my amp speaker and plugging it into my 8 ohm cab I will have created a 4 ohm load, the preferred one, for my amp. Speaker dieties will smile down from speaker towers and all will be right with the world. :D

Now for the aforementioned diagrams.

In your original post, you provided a link to a SINGLE 8-OHM SPEAKER. You made no mention of what the speaker configuration or impedance. I am not a mind reader. Complete information is always helpful.

If you have a speaker cab with two 8-ohm speakers in parallel, that gives you 4 ohms. The 8-ohm internal speaker in parallel with your 4 ohm cab gives you a total of 2.66 ohms. It might work. It might not. You can still disconnect the internal speaker and plug just the external cab into the amp as shown in your owner's manual.

An "open plug" is exactly what it says. A phone plug with nothing connected. There is an illustration of one in your owner's manual.
