About 4 years ago I purchased a Super Champ XD and had the stock 10" speaker replaced with an Eminence Rajin Cajun. Wanted to experiment and purchased a Super Champ 112 1x12 Speaker Cabinet with the intention of using the amp with BOTH speakers as a mini stack. To do this I made a wire that would connect from the extra slugs on the 10" RC to a 1/4 plug to the external 1x12 cab. Used for about a year with no problem and it does sound good.
About a month ago I replaced the tubes (Tung Sol 6v6 GT), and took it to a "tech" to do the bias. He told me that amp could not hold both speakers at the same time and that i was going to damage it, but as of now there was no damage.
I took his advise, and since then have only been playing it with either the combo speaker or the 112, but not both at a time. I would say the 112 is my favorite, but it does sound better with BOTH at the same time.

Any thoughts.......... will I really burn the amp if I play both speakers at the same time?

Thanks....

The SCXD is designed to push an 8-ohm load. Adding the second speaker has likely halved that to four. Thus, the current passing through the output transformer has increased significantly. Could damage occur? Yes. Will it? Impossible to determine. It all depends upon how stout that tranny is.

Arjay is right on the money, head his advice.

However, If you prefer to always use the two speaker configuration, Another option would be swapping the two speakers for 16 ohm speakers. That way when they are both plugged in and if they're wired in parallel it wont damage the amp(total resistance will be about 8 ohms). Also, if you ever decide to use only one speaker, the 16 ohm speaker won't damage the tranny. That's my 2 cents.
