The amp keeps cutting out. I bang on it..it works. What can I do to fix it myself .Id like to keep it as its the only solid state amp I own but its unreliable and I don't have money for amp repair. If it keeps up I'm gonna remove the chassis and turn it into a cabinet...I looked at the schematics but it looks like a foreign language.

Absolutely nothing unless you know something about electronics and have the proper test equipment.

Sounds like a good plan.

Not such a great amp to begin with in my opinion but like I said the only solid state I own. I bought it used ..worked fine for 7 years...so it ain't worth putting money into it.

Don't abuse your hands.

Such periodic tuning "tweaks" require a precision implement.

Use a hammer!

Do you know how to check the solder joints, and can you solder? Just a possibility that you have a poor solder joint(s).

I can solder but have no clue what I'm looking at in the chassis. I would unplug the amp of course but there's so many components!!

In that case, maybe it's time to take the amp to a good tech for a look. The usual suspects are the joints on the input jack(s) and joints in the power supply section, but all joints should be inspected.

Scratch that. OP said he has no money for repair in his first post.

Yes I can solder but what joints would I check? Anything that's soldered already or are there specific places to check ?

Here's the schematic and layout. Have fun.

I have an identical amp with the same trouble. It's in the connection between the preamp and the power amp in. When nothing's plugged into the preamp out or power amp in, it's supposed to be a closed connection internally. I'm not tech but my guitar tech IS. He tested first by simply plugging a short instrument cable from the preamp out to the power amp in, in effect assuring that the connection was made. The amp worked flawlessly after that! I chose to have him go inside and add a jumper between the jacks to be sure it would connect. Of course this fix renders the effects loop for external pedals useless, but you can still take the preamp out to a DI box or mixer if you so choose. Or you can go the cheap fix route and always plug a cable between the two jacks when using the amp. Mine works flawlessly now. Related subject. Just bought a brand new fresh in the box Hot Rod Deluxe III that quit working after 3 days. Reverb pan loose from floor of amp, RCA connecter bend and broken inside pan. ALL fasteners loose on the entire exterior of the amp. Fender gets an "F" for failure and an amp returned for a refund. I'll keep using my patched up Princeton DSP in it's place! :x

Thank you I'll try the cable in the preamp out power amp in and see if that solves the issue
