Hi all, just looking for some input on a decision I have to make. I own a 63 Princeton that was bought new at the time. Now over the years its not working anymore, probably due to capacitators drying up plus I have to have it rewired to ground it and have all the tubes replaced. After calling an authorized dealer and explainning what needs to be done, I got an estimate of somewhere between 2 - 300 dollars in repairs. For another $150 or so I can get a new Blues Jr. I would like to hear some of your opinions to help me make the right choice. I am currently using a Vox DA 15 which has 11 different effects and 11 different styles and was wondering if I would be able to get as many choices of styles and effects from the Blues Jr. Thank you all in advance for any help you can give me.

Hi there -

The BLues JR doesn't have any built-in effect. It's a straight tube amp. The built-in effect are available in the Super Champ XD - which has a pre-amp and 6V6 power tube, with DSP digital effect. It is a very popular small tube amp thatis very popular.

You will be happy to hear that Fender has confirmed the reissue of the blackface Princeton Reverb - to hit the stores in June - for about $800 street price !

I share the same personnal opinion as CAFeathers : Fix the princeton !

No digital effect modeling amp or modern all-tube will come close!

Thanks for your advice and the info on the other amps. I`ll have the Princeton serviced, it was a good amp and I got many years of use from it. I used this amp during an audition at a recording studio inside the building that televised The Ed Sullivan Show back in the 60`s in NYC. It has some nice memories attached to it , it`ll be nice to hear it working again.

I would say have someone go through it for sure and make sure they give you back all the parts they replace just to keep. Nothing like a good fresh tuned up amp. :)

Just for the sentimental reasons alone......I think I'd have the work done on it.

Sorry the pics are so big, don`t know why that happened...The leather handle had to be replaced with an after market product. The rest of it is original.

Hello JPD,

That Princeton is gold.

Best of luck on the overhaul.

Cheers.
