I have 2 external cabs. One is a peavey combo classic 30 and an external cab (112e) that has just clips. I just replaced the 8ohm speaker with a 16ohm to match Impendance. I haven't turned on the combo and cab yet for fear of frying something!!!!

I also just bought a 10 dollar combo amp with just a speaker and a jack that was being used as an external cab. There's no board or anything just speaker and jack.

What's odd is that the voice coil wires seem to be connected to the terminals somehow...?
I'm taking out that speaker and putting in a different one.

My question is is there anything in regards to simple wiring of an external cab that requires anything other than the speaker wires and jack. Somehow I'm thinking I'm missing something regarding the voice coil or some other wiring/grounding issue? I don't want to fry my amp/s or do something wrong. Both amps and cabs are one amp/one external speaker.
Any and all help greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you have two combo amps and one speaker cab. What are you trying to connect to what? Which 8 ohm speaker did you replace with a 16 ohm speaker? Your post is very confusing.

Sorry

1. I have a peavey classic 30 combo amp. I have a peavey external cabinet (in the ext cab I replaced the 8ohm speaker with a 16ohm speaker so the Impendance will match. The new speaker as well as the old speaker was connected with clips. The jack was already in. Haven't turned it on yet.

2. I have a fender greta amp.
Today I bought a 10 dollar used fender amp with just a speaker and a jack connected to the speaker. All the guts have been removed. The guy I bought it from said he was using it like an ext cabinet.
I want to use the speaker out of the greta with the fender (as an ext cab as well)I have a better speaker I'd like to use (a celestion 8ohms) instead of the one that has the jack attached. I removed the fender speaker but noticed the voice coil seems to be connected to the fender speaker. Before I put in the celestion and jack I was curious why the fender speaker was wired somehow with the voice coil wires near or on the speaker terminals?

Sorry I have another post in this forum regarding my fender princeton 65 dsp...a different issue that's resolved for the time being.

Ummm, the voice coil of EVERY modern speaker connects to the speaker terminals with two wires. How else do you think the speaker works? Still don't know what your question is. Maybe post some photos.

Here's a post from another forum. The thread shows the fender(ext cab) I got today and the peavey speaker(ext cab) Both speakers are being replaced but look different regarding the voice coil attached. I'm thinking the fender looks different because its original intent was a combo amp not an ext cab. Just want to be sure before I power up.

Again: The voice coil of EVERY modern speaker connects to the speaker terminals with two wires. DO NOT TOUCH THEM.

Just connect the new speaker wires to the terminals. You can use clips or solder. Does not matter. I don't understand what is not clear to you and why you keep asking the same question over and over.

It's more clear now ...the wiring looks(even if its the same wiring in theory)very different on the 2 diff speakers.

All you need to worry about is connecting wires from the cabinet input jack to the two tabs on each speaker.

Everything went off with out a hitch...soldering and clips
Got an external cab for the greta 8ohms,
an external cab for the peavey combo 16ohm

Now all I need is a way to use one of the existing cabs for my fender champion 600..(4ohms)...

Weber zmatcher seems cool but $$

Any way to run something like a dummy load on my 8ohm cab for the champion 600 (4ohms) any other ideas? I want a bigger speaker for the champion 600 for micing in the studio. Thank everyone

I run my C600 connected to an external 12" 8-ohm Celestion speaker cab with no problems. Just unplug the internal 6" speaker and connect the 8-ohm cab in its place. No need to complicate matters.

I routinely use my tube amps with a mismatched speaker impedance, staying within a 2 to 1 ratio. The C600 sounds great with an 8 ohm 1x12 speaker cab. :)

That's great to know. It's more a recording situation than live. These little fender amps rock
Never had a cab until now. It's not volume I needed just tonal adjustment. Thanks.
