Anybody use the Pre Amp Out into a computer audio interface to record? I'm reading that correctly in the owner's manual right? I'm wondering what advantage this has to going directly in from guitar + pedals. I assume I'd get the crunch channel, maybe the tones, reverb and presence controls? Kinda new to the whole DAW recording. I have a Roland Duo-Capture EX audio interface.

Edit: Okay, so I tried it.
Seems to work okay. The amp volumes are way down so I had to crank my input up on the audio interface from like 1 O'clock to 3 O'clock to get a decent signal. I'm getting some background hiss, especially from the drive track. I guess signal is dependent on amp volume?

My next experiment/question is if I can run my pedals in a chain from guitar--->pedals--->Pre Amp Out--->audio interface--->computer. Is anybody here doing this kinda thing?

After this I'm gonna mic it up with a Shure SM57

Yeah, that'll work, but monitor your signal closely for spikes and you might need to do some high pass filering during or post mixdown.

One thing that works real well is to use a stereo output from the "B" out of a stereo pedal and input to an audio interface like M-Audio Fast Track.

I would mic it with the SM57 or an old (working) AKG D1000E. But that's me...

This is interesting to me. What difference does this make compared to using the amp out?

Using the Preamp Out from the HRDlx leaves the reverb and presence out of the signal path. If you use the output from a stereo pedal in front of the amp, you get none of the amp sound at all on your recording. If you use the stereo pedal in the loop and use one output for the recording, you still get no reverb or presence from the amp. Using a mic on the amp speaker gives you exactly all of the sound that you hear from the amp, including pedals and amp reverb and presence.
