What it means is that you need to wire the heaters per the Weber diagrams shown below.

https://taweber.powweb.com/store/5e3_schem.jpg

https://taweber.powweb.com/store/5e3_layout.jpg

Note: I posted the wrong diagrams earlier. I have fixed that. These are correct. Sorry for any confusion.

Okay, those make more sense. By the way, I have 9th pins on the preamp tube sockets grounded, but the weber diagram doesn't call for that. Should I remove the ground or will it be fine?

Is pin 9 grounded in the Weber diagram? No. One more time: Wire the heaters EXACTLY as shown in the Weber diagrams.

Alright, will do. I'll keep you updated on the result.

Good luck.

JMOOC, but I think that it would be better to stick with the layout that Leo gave us (shown on page two of this thread), with one side of the heater supply, pilot light, extra socket pins, etc, grounded. It might be less prone to noise that way, and a bit easier to wire also. (don't use the green/yellow wire)

Personally, I think the fewer grounds you have, the less chance you have for eddy currents and loops with the resulting noise. I try to keep the power and signal grounds separate and as far apart from each other as possible. Seems to work.

According to the layout that he later said he used, he had only one green wire to the pilot light (the other side of the light grounded), but he had the green/yellow wire grounded, which meant probably only about 3.2 volts to the pilot light, enough to light it but not enough to light the tube heaters. If the other green wire is grounded and the green/yellow left unconnected, the light should still light, and the heaters should also light up, using one wire to each and grounding the other side of each.

No sense changing horses in mid stream. But, you might be right about the grounding, although I believe that a 5E3 wired this way isn't noisy at all when using a three prong power cord.

Actually, this appears to be my own mistake. I, trying to figure out the heater wiring, actually wired both green wires to the pilot light, I guess causing it to work, and following my earlier layout for the rest of the heater wiring, causing everything else to not work. With two wires going to the pilot light, it lights up whether or not the green/yellow wire is grounded or not. Like I said, I'll follow that weber diagram and see if that solves my problem.

Just finished wiring it up and it works! Just played the first notes through it! There's only 1 problem, and it's an ungodly hum. I didn't ground the yellow/green wire (although I think the weber layout calls for it, can't tell what the red triangles mean exactly) and I don't have any grounding on the output jacks because I have a different output tranny than the weber layout. Any help?

Yes, if going by the Weber diagram, it looks like it shows green/yellow to ground (chassis). My response was based on having one of the green wires to ground (Leo's way), and in that case don't ground the green/yellow wire.

Alright, since I went by the weber diagram it looks like grounding the green/yellow wire is my best bet.

Well, after grounding the green/yellow wire, the hum significantly decreased. However, there is still a bit of noticeable hum and I discovered another problem, too. When I put the amp into standby, there is a bunch of static and the signal doesn't go entirely quite. Any help here?

If you followed the original Fender layout, one side of the output tranny secondary will be grounded to the chassis. The speaker jack is also grounded to the chassis.

Check all your wiring for solid solder joints and clean layout. Post a photo of the wired chassis. You do not want to have wires carrying AC, particularly the heater wires, running parallel with signal wires.

May as well make use of the PT heater wiring as designed.
