My bad, Arjay. I should have been more concise in my language and been clear that I was alluding to the recent crop (crap?) of the better/more costly amps from FMIC. I have a Mustang l, SCX2 and a Bronco that I am more than happy with. Each of these amps could get me laughed out of a serious Fender owners meeting.

I was quite serious about the effect of waning QC being healthy for people getting more geeky with their equipment. When building a quality tube amp is not quite an arcane art, because interest and need has driven more to learn how to follow schematics with the genius left behind by Leo, then we all benefit in more than a few ways. Supply and demand factor in here.

I will admit that the whole "investment" consciousness of these amp is a turn off for me. It is this same fascination with money that is behind QC issues. I do not wish to really open that can of worms. The programming is too deep.

I knew what you meant modwiz.

While I would love to have just one of the amps that Arjay has, I would rather build my own handwired, eyelet board clone for half the price of what a modern reissue costs.

Manufacturers should be providing the customer what he wants.

And what he's paying for.

No arguments from me.

Gee Art, I'm a "nobody" (relatively speaking) and I manage to find them. As do dozens of others here on the forum. All it takes is patience, familiarity with the breed, and -- when the moment of truth arrives -- the courage to reach for the Visa card.

I know they are out there. I have one, and I'm a "nobody." Pro musicians don't have the patience. They need the amp today and a backup, today. Both identical. Both supported by the builder. I'm not just talking about Eric Clapton and the other guitar gods. I'm talking about all who feed their families by going out night after night, week after week. I think there are plenty of artists who would gladly use Fender IF they could get reliable NEW build gear. Many use other brands for the sound, some for endorsements, and many others, because Fender doesn't offer what they need anymore. (yeah, I know Fender CS will build Keith Richards a set of Twins if he wants them. But he's Keith Richards.)

What Fender offers is good enough for me. But I'm pretty good at my "day job." I don't see any "Stadium tours" in the near future for me. I'm just thinking about those who need the "good stuff" and are willing to pay for it (new.)

There are plenty of companies who make carbon copies of the great old amps we know and love and they do it for less than what we would pay for the originals on eBay. The question I ask myself is whether I need the actual brand name or just need the right tone? The answer to that question changes depending on the health of my pocketbook.

Tone and reliability trump a "hood ornament" every time!

If your pockets are a little deep, Victoria makes some of THE best current production Fender amps. I've only played two and they were magnificent. Incredibly well built and guarantied for life! If I were gigging full time again, I spring for one in a heartbeat.

On that same theme of Fender type, boutique, ptp hand-wired, new amps, has anyone here had any first-hand experience with a RedPlate Blackverb? (Also pricey)
Thoughts and opinions?
If it bothers the OP or anyone else that I asked on this thread, I'll gladly move it to a new one.

My new Fender Princeton 65 started crackling horribly after about five hours of playtime. I'll update more when the company who sold it to me responds to me.
