No experience with amp but I fixed it!! What are these clips
Ok I've had this amp that was broken for a year. It would cut out and fizz all of a sudden ...then I'd bang on the top and it would work again. I've never changed a speaker or fiddled with trying a repair. My amp is a fender princeton 65 dsp solid state. It's my practice amp. Like a fool I opened it up by removing screws at the top and sides to try and look at the chassis...why? To see how and if the speaker was wired inside...and see if anything was obviously loose. Anyway I saw these yellow plastic clips (didn't take photo) didn't see any solder just clips. Sorry for the long post. Here's my question. How do you remove these clips on the actual speaker? ( I did take a pic see below) I tried yanking the clips on the speaker (not the chassis) almost as hard as I could and they didn't budge. I was gonna try a different speaker to see if that was the problem. also would like to try a different speaker in the future anyway as the speaker sounds harsh.
started to get nervous and put all screws a back in and the amp works better than when I bought it 8 years ago. Still would like to know what I did right and how those clips come off for sure? Anyway to know if there's solder or some kinda reinforcement on the clips...thank you ! Heres a few photos

There's also some kind of metal bar on on side of the terminals...not sure what that is? I realize pic is a little blurry.

Sorry cant find load an attachment? Can't find load attachment maybe because im using a phone. Well if anyone knows the fender princeton 65 dsp?? Looks like clips but there's also a metal bar on the negative terminal I believe. Not sure if the clips have solder also I don't see any obvious solder but/and I did try pulling pretty hard..did stop cause I wasn't sure

You're right. "Like a fool" you opened up an amp that you know nothing about the insides of and started poking around. Did you at least unplug it before opening it up? Did you bother to do any research on the amp? Find the schematic? If this had been a tube amp, we would probably be calling you "Sparky" now. If you didn't kill yourself. Next time, come here first and ask questions before sticking your hands inside an amp.

What did you fix? Who knows. Sounds like a loose connection that you may have just accidently tightened up. And as far as those clips go, that's what they are, Clips. They pull off. They can be very tight and you may need some needle nose plyers to grasp the metal end of the clip and pull. No idea what the "metal bar" is that you are talking about.

Do a search in the forum on posting photos. There is a thread telling you how to do it.

I'd wager that's how a large percentage of people started out their electrical careers or future hobbies. I know I spent rather a lot of time when I was a teenager taking random stuff apart and trying to find out how it worked, with occasional success - no handy internet back then, and the local library was utterly useless! I remember prodding around inside an old non working Sound City 120 tube head when I was 15 with absolutely no clue what I was doing. Always unplugged, but I had no clue how to drain caps back then!

I think it's a miracle some of us are still alive.

Well yes I unplugged the amp. It's solid state but I read those amps can hold a charge as well as tube amps even unplugged? Well won't be doing that no more ...
Here's another forum I posted a pic or two with question regarding little metal bar running underneath clip on right side. The whole clip and bar thingy slide around..not sure what it is.

Looking at that pic of the speaker I wonder if that is not an alternative grounding technique. My Mustang l has a grounding wire soldered to the same area that that bar runs to. A spot between the two terminals. My guess is the spot is based on proximity only. Just a guess though.

I want to try a different speaker in the amp. the clips seem straighfoward although i aint gonna pull them off because that metal bar thingy has got me stumped. it looks like part of the way the speaker is connected? I won't mess with it unless someone knows what's up. Thanks

That metal strip looks like a ground connection, but the speaker frame is not grounded. What purpose it serves I have no idea and doubt that it matters.

Those clips require a pair of needle nose pliers. You remove them with a combination of wiggling them from side to side along the blade (not up and down) while pulling on them. Grab the end of the clip where the wire enters the clip. If you grab the body, you will tighten the clip making it even harder to pull off.

Look closely at the speaker connectors, it looks like there might be a small catch in the center that must be pushed in (from the underside) before pulling the connectors from the speaker. The C600 has these clips, and I nearly broke a terminal off of the speaker before I slipped the plastic covers back and noticed the catches. That "bar" just connects the speaker basket to the amp chassis, and it might be unnecessary, but nothing to worry about.......that is as long as you make sure to connect the black (negative) speaker wire to that same terminal. The small crimped on parts on the end of the little bits of speaker wire hanging from the terminals are probably just put there to keep the speaker wires from falling out before soldering.

Por favor, disculpe mi español, no se llega a la práctica con mucha frecuencia.

Yeah, some clips have the little catch, others don't. Usually after you pull them a couple of times they are pretty worthless. I prefer to solder my wires to the speaker.

I noticed that when working on my C600. Lots of wiggling and finally found the little tab. The solder the factory uses nowadays isn't worth a crap. That's why they use the clips. JMO.

Actually, I think those clips have been in use for longer than ROH solder has been around. I can still buy 60/40 locally.
