I was wondering if anyone has ever had a problem with their Champion 600 overheating. Because I just got it and every time I play for more than an hour, the metal panel gets extremely hot. Anyways, just wondering if others have encountered this problem, or if this is typical of a tube amp-(this is my first). Any comments or replies will be appreciated. Thanks

Does the Tone change?

It is normal for tube amps to get very hot.

I have some vintage tube amps
you could fry an egg on

hotrod,
I have the same amplifier and it gets hot. I've played it for almost 2 hours at a time and haven't had any issues. I will be upgrading my tubes this week so I'll let you know how that goes. I'm told this amp comes alive with a quality set of tubes.

I've modded my Champion with Tung-Sol tubes and a Sica/Jensen 6'' 15W speaker. Sometimes i run it for 4 to 5 hours without any problems.
It can get hot but that's inherent with tube amps.

Hey keep us posted, I would like to know how the amp sounds.

Well the amp is going to get hot and so are the tubes. DON'T TOUCH the tubes after you have been playing for a while cause the are very hot and this is normal, the amps tone should sound better when the amp is running warm.

I have run this amp through a Vox AC cab that was the same amount of money as the amp and I have to say it did nothing for the sound in a small room and I actually prefered the stock speaker sound. I think the amp has a great tone and it is the person who is playing it that will determine the sound in the end.

WHOA!!!!! This thread is ancient!

Tube amps get hot. It's a fact. If you play for long enough, every part of the amp will experience some heat -- including the metal control panel. It's only a big deal if flames erupt from the chassis.

Yep.........I have a different tube amp......but it always gets hot when played. I've often gone 3-4 hours playing with it, and so far......no flames. I also let it cool down for a bit, before I put a cover on, once done.
