My long term bandmate (through a string of bands) has always used a Fender Twin '65 reissue. We both love the classic Fender twang, but also particularly the lush reverb, and the awesome tremelo. But we're all getting older and weaker and have reached the conclusion that this amp is both too heavy and too loud. Any opinions on a smaller lighter alternative that captures the magic of the twin? Cost is an issue so a vintage amp might not be an option. Thanks in advance fellow Fender lovers.

Well, it depends. Do you need all the power of a Twin? Or are you just wanting clean shimmering tones?

Take a look at the DRRI. It's 35 lbs lighter than the TRRI yet surprisingly loud given its 22-watt output.

Specs have the Twin and Deluxe at 64 and 42 lbs respectively. Perhaps you were thinking of the Princeton at 34 lbs?

The Twin Reverb surely weighs much more than 64 pounds. :?:

The specs are wrong, Art -- trust me.

I've been shlepping Twin Reverbs around since the late '60s. Even with OEM speakers, they'll all nudge the needle of your typical bathroom scale to around 80 lbs......add another 25 lbs or so if premium speakers like JBL's or Altec's are installed. Tack on yet another ten or twelve if the amp is an 135-watt ultra-linear silverface (ooof!).

The typical Deluxe Reverb (vintage or re-issue) measures right around 45 lbs, with a standard ceramic speaker. A much more sensible (and manageable) package for the majority of today's venues.

Kendrick is selling off their BadAssMan amps at a substantial discount. Presumably until they're all gone. Might be just what the doctor ordered. 35 watts. 40 pounds. 112 with a Bassman style circuit but with 3 knob reverb.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

My medical-type scale (you know, the kind with the sliding weights across the top) says 66 lbs.
And don't call me Shirley...

I'll bet the Jensens weigh at least a couple lbs. more than the original Eminence or Utahs.

The JBLs must have been back-killers fer sure.
I'm going to put two EVM 12Ls in mine so I can go on permanent disability. Har!

The magnet assembly for each JBL D120F or K120 contains 11.5 lbs of pure alnico alloy. Factor in another 5 lbs for the forged aluminum basket and it makes for one helluva heavy sumbitch.

Today's typical ceramic-magnet twelve typically weighs around 9.5 lbs in total.
