I just bought a Fender Excelsior and it has a buzzing sound that goes away when I touch the strings or the jack of the cable going into the input of the guitar. The guitar I'm using is a 2009 Gibson Les Paul Studio. Any Ideas?
Thanks, Scott

Ground problem.

Did you break off the ground from the electrical plug, or are you using an outlet that isn't grounded (three prongs)?

Thanks for the reply, found out it is "dirty electricity", only happened where I first used it. The wiring in this place is questionable. I tried it at another place and there wasn't any buzzing. I bought a Furman power/surge protector bar and this didn't clean it up either. At least it's a piece of mind with the power bar. This amp rocks! Can't wait till I get my JJ tubes. gonna swap out the stock 6V6's and 12AX7's for JJ 6V6's and JJ ECC83S's. This set up I've been told really wakes this amp up.

If you like it now, you should hear it with an Eminence Legend 1518. The difference is unbelievable!

Good to hear your problem is most likely bad mains. My amp is very quiet. I do hear a slight whishing sound when the tremolo is going even if nothing plugged in.

Overall, I love this amp.

I'm not going to be swapping out the speaker. I think the speaker is part of the signature sound. If I want to get a different sound, I'll just plug the head into a cabinet with a different speaker in it.

Very true. The stock sound is quite unique. It's just a sound that I probably would not use frequently....not that it's bad, just different.

I may be picking up an Excelsior soon... perhaps this weekend! I am meeting a Craigslister to sell an item that would just pay for it. I have a Power Chorus I just acquired to run my Mustang Floor through... and I have a nice little G-DEC 3 30 practice amp. But it would be nice to also have a portable little tube amp in the family!

Questions:
Good little blues noodling amp? (Not expecting a Blues Deluxe here... but what's your opinion?

Is there any difference between the "Brown" Excelsior in the stores now and the FSR Excelsiors coming soon besides the new color schemes?

Could this amp be connected to my Power Chorus to use the Power Chorus 2 12 inch speakers as a "cabinet" of sorts?

Worth the $300?

Lots of demos on YouTube of the Excelsior playing the blues (and sounding good doing so).

Other than the color, the difference in the brown is that the other colors have the upgraded Eminence Legend speaker and are priced accordingly. This speaker will cost $90 if you buy it to install on the brown one.

There are no line outs nor any other means to connect the Excelsior to a power amp of any type. And there are no external speaker jacks either...it's made for one 8 ohm speaker.

Those who like the Excelsior's sound find it well worth $300.

Hmmm... specs say it has a 1/4 inch speaker disconnect for plugging the Excelsior into amp cabs. I will have to check on that.

That is correct. The internal speaker connects to the chassis via a 1/4" plug/jack. You can remove the plug, disconnecting the internal speaker and then substitute a speaker cable running to an 8 ohm cab, but you cannot run an extension cab simultaneously with the internal speaker.

So I can plug the Excelsior into my Power Choruses 212s but cannot use the 212s and the Excelsior's 115 at the same time... got it!

I did pick an Excelsior up today... GC had a $50 off coupon bringing it down to $250. I just figured that at my skill level and limited budget for what my wife considers to be toys, it was not worth ordering the Pro for an extra $100 and having to wait for it. The brown cab matches my strat better anyway!

Won't get a chance to play with it until tonight.

$250...great deal! When you say "plug the Excelsior into my Power Choruses 212s" you must: 1) insure that the total impedance of the 2X12s is 8 ohms, and 2) utilize the speakers ONLY and not go through the Power Chorus amp with the amplified signal of the Excelsior. For equipment protection reasons, the Power Chorus amp should not even be "on"; in fact, don't even plug it in. 3) make the connection with a speaker (NOT instrument) cable plugged into the Excelsior jack after pulling its plug, then coupled w/ a 1/4" female/female coupler to the 1/4" plug from the 2X12s (assuming it has such).

OK, so I would not want to plug the Excelsior into the return on the Power Choruses effects loop (bypassing the Power Choruses preamp?)

The only 'OUT' from an Excelsior is an already amplified signal (at up to 13 watts). NO
