I have a HRD III that has a steady ticking/clicking sound about 1/second frequency. It does this when warm and in both channels. It is not affected by volume. When the guitar volume decays, you can hear a slight wavering of the volume (increases with the click). The amp works fine otherwise. Does anyone have an idea what this is?

Just a WAG but you might take a look at V1A's coupling cap (C18) and check it for DC leakage.

Hi flyingape15,

Do you wear a wrist watch?

That happened to me - I went absolutely nuts trying to track down a regular clicking noise from an amp once, turned out to be noise from my watch being amplified. Doh!

Anyone working in or around electronic equipment containing high voltage while wearing any kind of jewelry should seriously consider an alternate career.

Well, on my planet, people do occasionally wear watches while holding a guitar with single coils. I'll hand in my notice to myself tomorrow then, as I was not aware this was somehow a problem. ;)

Seriously though, I do agree with the point you're trying to make - when delving inside an amp, everything comes off. I have an acquaintance who lost a big chunk of finger due to bumping against live contacts with their wedding ring.

No cell phone, no wrist watch. It's the amp. It changes some when I switch channels.
Thanks for the replies all. Sounds to me that this is not that far off normal, so I'll live with it for now.

No, it isn't normal, just that some times noises like this are from an external source and not the amp. Try the amp in another location, as the noise could be from an appliance/computer/monitor in your house. If the noise is still present at another location, then you might want to look inside the amp as Retroverbial suggested.
