I've been having intermittent problems with the reverb on my CVR. Sometimes the reverb will not turn on. Tremolo works. I've done some Google research and I've looked at the common problems. When I turn the amp on with the switch pedal unplugged the reverb IS on. So that means the switch, right? Well I took a closer look at the switch pedal. Opened it up and the switches seem to be connected just fine. I opened up the jack and found some very sloppy work in there and I figured maybe the lead was accidentally grounding out. I fixed it up and still - reverb does not engage. HOWEVER, here's the rub: I turned the amp on again later and the reverb WAS working with the footswitch as normal.

Gotta love an intermittent problem. Any suggestions? At this point I'm thinking it's either the mechanical switch in the pedal, OR it's a problem at the footswitch jack in the amp.

The foot switch only turns off the reverb (and/or vibrato), as you noted with the foot switch disconnected, the reverb (and vibrato) is on, meaning that the foot switch probably is not the problem if the reverb is also intermittent with the foot switch disconnected. I suspect a bad connection in the reverb circuit, maybe even a tube socket connection. Have you tried and new 12AT7 (V3) and and new 12AX7 (V4)?

Is the reverb also intermittent without the foot switch connected?

Perhaps I didn't explain well above. The reverb appears to work fine with the footswitch disconnected. So it's not a tube or connection in the tank itself. I did swap out both the reverb send and recovery tubes to be sure (that was actually the first thing I tried).

Oh! In that case, yes, the switch or jack could be the problem. The cable is a TRS, "stereo" cable, right? The switch is simply on or off, so if you could catch it when the reverb doesn't turn on, the switch would be stuck in the on or closed position and could be checked with an ohm meter before trying to switch again.
