...most of the posts here are talking rubbish about its volume management. The SS60 will be just fine at low volumes. I have had mine for a couple of years and I never feel the need to turn up the volume to get a better tone. What with the Vintage chn settings and a Burn chn (that can also be patched via the footswitch into the FX loop to act as a boost ) you won't be scratching for that illusive 'good' tone.

Depending on the year of the model, you will get either the wonderfully bright and sparkling Vibrolux/(60s) Bassman (not Tweed) or a derivative Reverb model/Bassman.

Be aware - the Burn chn setting will be coloured by the Vintage chn setting - so experiment here too... A good discerning ear will detect the nuances...!

The only downside to any of the 'serious' Fender amps is the perennial Weight - it is weighty - but luckilly, not as weighty as its larger sibling SS100 Twin - Whoa!

My tone tips:

* Vibrolux setting is wonderful for Funk chops! - Set the Treble Down and Bass UP.
* Use a good OD pedal to get higher gain rather than expect the Burn to deliver on its own.
* A transparent OD on the Bassman Chn a Strat and some attitude will make you sound like Kenny Wayne Shepherd! - Turn Bass Down Treble UP - 10 and 2 O-clock positions respectively in each case.

Calling people's opinions "rubbish" is not going to win you any friends in this forum nor will people rush to help you next time you have a problem. You have your opinions and have expressed them. Others have done the same. If they don't agree, deal with it, but not by insulting the members who may have more knowledge about Fender amps or amps in general, than you may realize.

Telling others to read the manual won't either...

But his advice to use the Vibrolux and Bassman is what I'm looking for. I'm not really interested in the Burn Channel anyway... But for the price, I know I will do great on the resale market. I already had an offer to trade it for a Bassman Reissue...

That's your opinion and although I disagree, I wouldn't call your opinion "rubbish".

I agree with Bill, I wouldn't call others opinions rubbish. For some of us it's called experience. I've been playing over 45 years and have played countless gigs in that time. Over 45 years I've had more amps than I care to admit. We're all entitled to our opinions. I don't care for any of the Super Sonic series myself. Don't mean you can't like them. My taste and opinions just varies from some people. And yes, in my opinion, volume does effect tone. Most of Fenders Drive and burn channels just sound artificial to me. Fender was never known. For high gain amps. it's was just natural tube distortion. I'd rather push a twenty or thirty watt amp to it's sweet spot. I sold my 76 SF 100 watt Twin for that very reason. I was tired of sounding anemic at lower volumes. That thing would breathe fire around seven on the volume knob. There is nothing in Fenders lineup that sounds remotely like a 60's Vibrolux Reverb. I know, I owned an original for close to twenty years. Didn't sell it, it was stolen. It also had two 10's not a single 12. Bassman amps run four tens. It won't sound like either of them.

Its a thing of beauty and ticks all the boxes...sounds and looks amazing.
However...dragging it into venues and out of my car at 2am after getting home from the gig was killing me.
It is also one seriously loud amp...I nudged the volume up slightly one night and our very loud bass player told me I was too loud...so I downsized...lovely amp though.

The guy I bought it from told me to put a patch cable in the effects loop, that's how I can use it for a boost function. Rather great idea...

Keep in mind that you will need to balance the send and return levels to keep from overdriving the tubes.

I haven't tried it yet, but I'm looking forward to playing with it some more. I've enjoyed it so far, but kept my volume low. Even then, I'd have to say this amp sounded great. Kicks the pants off my Blues Jr...

But what doesn't really? I'd certainly hope the speaker in a Blues Jr cab isn't claustrophobic.

I agree "Rubbish" ! I have also owned mine for over 2 years and retubed it with ANOS tubes. Black Plate 6L6GC RCAs and Mullard, RCA and Sylvania 12ax7s and a CV4024 in the PI and Reverb slots. Works great at any volume, I live in a 35 foot camper. Also is dead quiet as a recording amp, no hum!

I have the Blues Jr. NOS edition with the BillM mod kits... It sounds much better than any amp of its size out there. The gritty preamp sounds much smoother now, I rather enjoy it it. With the presence mod, basic kit, and output transformer swap, its a better amp then any 15w combo out there in the sub $1,000 range...

And since I just sold my Blues Jr. on Fleabay, the amount I sold it for versus what I paid for this Supersonic is $50... Not bad.
