I have 65 RI Super Reverb that works good and then when the overdrive, delay, or compression pedal are engaged it stops producing sound. I tried the overdrive by itself and got a low buzzing overdrive but not normal. I used the same pedal setup on my friends RI Super reverb and it works fine, (no cord or power issues with pedals) It is the same on both channels, It makes sound with direct plug in but when using pedals little or nothing and as stated before I tested all cords and pedals on another amp and they work great. The 12at7 tubes are very dim all other tubes look bright. The amp has been such a great amp and the tone is amazing! The pedal setup that I use is a Boss CE-5 Chorus, Boss DD-6 Delay, Xotic BB, and MXR Compression Pedal with an Eric Johnson Rosewood Stratocaster. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

If the amp works normally when plugging your guitar directly into it, there is nothing wrong with the amp.

Brightness of the tube heaters is meaningless.

Suggest you connect each pedal one at a time, then two at a time, etc. in various combinations until you find the combination that fails. Your problem will be in that combination.

I did try each pedal seperately and I have the same result, I tried with daisy chain power and with only 9volt power and no pedal power, I plugged in the exact cables and pedals into a seperate amp and everything works great, I even tried each pedal seperately and it works great, I then move the exact cord back to the Super Reverb Input and no response on any pedal. Even the no boost pedals give no signal. I will keep trying combinations. Thanks, Bill

Got it fixed, It was the power tubes, I had a new pair of matched tubes and placed them in the amp and it was back, needs biased but works. I want to thank Bluesky636 for trying to help me on the limited amount of information I had given I really appreciate it.

The amp worked with the old tubes when you plug the guitar straight in, but not with any pedals connected.

You swap power tubes and suddenly the amp works with pedals.

Makes zero sense.

But if it works .....

I do agree it is the oddest thing, I have owned Fender deluxe's, Twins, Marshalls and Super reverbs, Played for 35 years and pretty much between me and my Dad (played for 55 years) we have repaired most amps and guitars out there and this issue had me stumped. After trying every possible solution, testing and then posting on the Fender Forum, I was looking on a tube forum site and found a guy who had the same RI Super and same problem, I thought it was a long shot but was amazed when it worked. Thanks Again, Bill

It sounded a lot like the issue lied in the pedal chain. Perhaps a sign that the SR wants only a guitar going into it. :P

So true, It may have an attitude (like Christine the Evil Car Movie). It definitely was the amp, I'm very fortunate to have a neighbor and good friend that has the exact same amp, I used the same pedal combo and it worked great. However I will ask my local Amp Tech why it would happen, I know the tubes were original, now I need to consider replacing all the tubes which means researching the best tubes for this kind of amp but it is worth it. Thanks, Bill
