Hi, I've got a twin reissue and i've been having problems with the reverb knob buzzing. Everything is fine on the normal channels but when i plug into the vibrato/reverb channels i will get a buzzing as soon as i turn up the reverb that gets more severe the higher it goes. I thought it was a preamp issue so I replaced the 12AX7 tubes but i'm still getting the buzz. Any ideas what this could be? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Try unplugging the footswitch and see if the problem persists.

Defective footswitches have been known to cause a number of issues with both the reverb and the tremolo.

I actually lost the foot switch so i have been playing without one. from what i've read you can use the reverb fine but the tremolo is useless without one. do you think this absence of the foot switch is what is causing the buzz?

No. Lack of a footswitch would not cause the issue at hand.

Have you checked all of the connections both to and from the chassis to the reverb tank? The contact points need to be corrosion-free and positively seated.

Hi mother2,

The reverb driver (V3) is a 12AT7, did you try replacing V3 with a 12AT7?

Sorry, I am really not too educated with amplifiers. How should I go about doing this? I also bought some deoxit, should I spray some of this on the connections? thank you

Does it go away after warming up? My Music Man RD112-100 has a similar buzz on start-up but after about 45 minutes of playing, or just being on for that matter, it settles down. My experience may be totally unrelated.

If it doesn't have a power tube in the circuit...I'm not that interested

Retroverbial is referring to the cables that go to and from the reverb tank. The reverb jacks are labeled on the back of the amp, and the cables go to the reverb tank located in the bottom of the cab. Check each end of each cable (one end at a time) by unplugging from it's jack and check for corrosion or oxidation, and if clean, firmly re-seat the cable in its jack. I'm not a fan of spraying anything on amp parts unless necessary. You also mentioned replacing the 12AX7 tubes in the preamp, and I was referring to the 12AT7 tube for the reverb driver. The reverb driver, which is V3, must be a 12AT7 (or lower) and not a 12AX7, and you can try swapping it with a known good 12AT7. The amp should be unplugged from electricity before spraying Deoxit or swapping tubes.

Actually, the reverb in and out jacks for the re-issue blackfaces are located on the bottom of the chassis. For easy ID, both the jacks and their corresponding plugs are color-coded (like a piece of hi-fi gear) to prevent confusion.

so after thinking this problem was with only the reverb today i turned on the amp and i was getting the buzz in all the channels. I had a friend tell me that this could be a preamp tube issue so I replaced the preamp tubes and sprayed some contact cleaner in the sockets.

it seems there there is now an entirely different issue, now i am getting very low volume coming from the amp (no buzz) but definitely something is wrong. the amp starts to break up at around 2 or 3 and it wont turn up loud at all. I tried taking the old preamp tubes and exchanging them with the new ones i put in and I have the same issue. any ideas?

all the tubes appear to be lighting up normally.

How old is this amp and when's the last time you took it in for servicing? There are components within aside from the tubes that periodically expire due to a finite service life.
