Firstly, my apologies for having a few threads runing at the mo. But this didnt really seem relavent to any of my other threads.
Im going to be returnig a 65TRRi i purchased yesterday. And before i sort out with the shop weather to repair or replace or refund i spotted something on Ebay that may be worth a look.
Its a 64 Vibroverb RI. Here's the ad.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Vibrov ... 27cf89abf9

After much googling, there seems to be a bit of a love/hate thing going on with these.
Now time has passed from there release and demise (2004 i believe) how have they faired?
A few reviews that these have quite an early break up at around 4 on the volume and quite mid range focused similar to a tweed type voicing. Any weight to this guys?
Also for those who have owned or do owned, What sort of clean headroom we looking at? Enough to remain clean with an agressive drummer at busy pub levels? Or should i stick to my 65RI Twin?
Thanks in advance.

I own an actual '64 Vibroverb and have only played the re-issue a handful of times so make of that what you will.

The re-issue BFVV is a modified platform with a couple of interesting twists. Two extra toggle switches on the rear panel allow the player to switch the tremolo circuit completely out of the signal chain (thus freeing up some heater current for the remaining gain stages) AND/OR selecting between the original GZ34 tube rectifier with its inherent power-supply "sag" or a solid-state diode stack which yields about 10 more usable watts to the speaker. This flexibility permits maximum grunt at a lower volume level while the switchable rectifier allows a skosh more clean headroom when desired.

I gig with my original Vibroverb often in medium to large saloons without the need for miking and it has ample power reserves to comfortably handle any conceivable contingency. I'm confident that the same would hold true for the re-issue edition as well.

HTH

If you decide on the RI Vibroverb, give that OEM Eminence speaker adequate break-in time before rendering a judgement on whether to keep it or not. Straight from the carton its a bit gritty and brittle-sounding but after 40 or 50 hours of vigorous play it begins to loosen up and start sounding sweeter.

According to the seller. The spreaker has been replaced with a Jensen C15N.

A contemporary import Jensen or a vintage C15N?
