shimmilou,

How did you download the amp circuit?

Where do you get the tube models from?

Those were on Duncan's site http://www.duncanamps.com/technical/ltspice.html

You do need to click on the second screen print and download the PSice Model. .inc files go where you will be saving your schematic. Symbols go into the lib folders way down under program files\LTC\LTSpice IV\........

Just found out that some of the Schematic examples are zip format and they have the .inc file in them as well. dmtriodep.inc

And if you don't download triodeh.asy and put it someplace under lib\sym\misc you will get an error when you open up one of those schematics.

Uuuuhhhhhh, I know how to use a computer. That's it. Most everything you just said went in one ear and out the other.

That's ok. I once knew an Engineman, who was top of his class and could tell you exactly what was wrong with an engine, how to fix it, and all the tolerances. But he couldn't be trusted with a wrench.

I'm sure that you, being an EE can handle a computer. Not sure I would want to trust my mechanic with one though.

For a little diversion, here is a TinyCad screenprint which can be used with VeeCad to produce PCBs The full page also has the standard drafting title/legend in the lower right corner. I need to find a std triangle GND for this app though.

You're making my head hurt!!!!!!

Honestly, I flunked computer science my senior year in college. Of course, that was in 1976, so things have changed a little.

If I had gone to college right out of HS I would have been a year ahead of you, but then again, I might have flunked out. I sucked at algebra. So, the military, in their infinite wisdom decided to make me an ET. WTF? The Navy got all the cool stuff and us Coasties got all the tube gear. When we got our first Collins 651 receiver in, the VHF side didn't even work on the POS. So we used that to listen to music and kept on using the old R-390's for Operations.

Ok. I'd like to restart this thread as I would like to build a correct schematic for my Wrecking Ball "Debbie".

I have downloaded the latest version of LT Spice and am stuck. Where do I get the tube models from and how do I install them? Nothing seems to work on the earlier Duncan Amps links that were posted. How do I get this thing to actually do something? HELP :!:

This is a link to download a triode model, if you don't already have one in your library. Just save to your Spice library, and then it's handy when building a circuit. I have Triode, Tetrode and Pentode in my library, but I'm not sure if they came with the software library or not. I do remember searching on the internet for various tube models.

You might save some time by downloading the circuit of the EL34 push-pull amp and then modify it with your components. You can break the circuit by deleting wires, then move whole sections of the model to make room for other components. You can also select any component on the model and then "save as" to add any missing components to your library.

I usually just use the simulation for small circuits, you have quite an undertaking here.

Oh yeah, the help file in the software is a great tool, I still use it.

Yeah, I started to peruse that tonight and some other stuff I found. I'll be honest, I can read a schematic in the dark with my eyes closed and blindfolded, but computer stuff just goes in one ear and out the other.

Sorry about that. Right click the link and chose "Save Link As...", then save it in your symbol library wherever you want it (the download will be an ".asy" file). Then, with the Spice program open, when you have a schematic open, or start a new schematic, click the symbol on the toolbar that looks like an "And Gate", and go to the file that you saved and select your downloaded file (triodeh). You can then click on your schematic as many times as you want triodes, and hit "Esc" on the keyboard when done.

I store my tube models in: C:\Program Files\LTC\LT spiceIV\lib\sym\Misc, but probably should have created a folder called "Tubes" to make it easier to find.

You might already have a simple triode model in the library in the file above, but this one has a heater added, but I don't think that you need a heater.

Edit:
OK, I created a folder called "Tubes" in my library, and moved the tube models from the "Misc" folder. Now, my tube models are in: C:\Program Files\LTC\LT spiceIV\lib\sym\Tubes. I feel much better now.

Didn't see this last night. Yes, you need to right click and save as... Otherwise, you get the text displayed.

I'm finding LT Spice good for small circuit modeling. But other products like Tiny CAD and KiCad better for building entire schematics. Especially for something larger than a Champ. Those do have quite a bit more available in the tube/valve department, but, they don't do any simulation.

Putting a larger amp in LT Spice is a daunting task, but would be the ultimate tool for testing changed components.

Ok. Thanks guys. I'm gonna have to figure this stuff out, but not tonight. Today was my first day physically back in my office and I have a splitting headache as a result. Maybe tomorrow. :(
