Hi all!
I'm kinda new to the forum, and tube amps for that matter. Anyway, I'm having some weird things go on with my hrd.

I just got it off craigslist and I got it for a really good deal. (almost nothing actually)

I don't know the age of the tubes, but if I plug the guitar into the "Power amp in" jack, it sounds loud and clear. I do know that I am bypassing the preamp.
I don't really know anything about capacitors or tubes, but I know this much.

When I move the treble knob at all, I get a whole bunch of breakup. It cuts out and back in rapidly. If a move it above 6, the brake up continues after I stop moving the knob. But it clears up after a couple seconds.

The initial problem, the cutting out while I move the knob, also occurs when I move the bass, mid, drive, and reverb.

I have no idea what this is???

Another problem is the reverb. There is no difference in reverb from 1 to 12. If it's turned up at all, the reverb is overpowering. It seems like all or nothing.

If you have any ideas. Please let me know!

Now you know why the amp cost "almost nothing".

The pots are probably just dirty. You may be able to spray the insides with a good contact cleaner. There should be a small opening in each pot that you can spray into and then just rotate the pots several times. I use Deoxit D5.

You may have a bad reverb pot also. Since the reverb sorta works, I doubt it is the tank. However, the reverb uses integrated circuits as driver and receiver. If they are bad, they should be professionally replaced.

If tube age is unknown, it wouldn't hurt to replace all of them if the amp sounds bad after the noise problems are resolved. You can buy a complete set of new tubes for the HRD here:

https://www.eurotubes.com/cart/index.ph ... gory_id=32

This amp does not have an adjustable bias for the power tubes, so a qualified tech should be called on to check bias and adjust it if necessary.

Good luck. Think twice the next time you have the chance to buy an amp really cheap.

Thanks for the quick reply! :D
If it's only the pots, that should be a quick fix right?
Is DeOxit d5 the best for cleaning pots?
Where can I get some cheap?

Cautiously optimistic! :|

All HRDlxs and HRDvls have a bias pot and test point, even the originals. It's only the BDlx and BDvl originals that don't have a bias pot or test point.

You're right. I missed that it was an HRD not a BRD. My bad.
