Hey guys and gals,

I appreciate before I get into it that this maybe a common topic about these amps, and I have had a fair look around the forums prior to posting this. But if anyone already knows a previous thread that deals with this that I may have missed feel free to point it out. Thanks.

Anyway, my issue is obviously the reverb unit on my Hot Rod Deluxe III. Out of the blue, the reverb decided to stop working. I can't give you a good reason why as the amp itself has been sat in the corner of my room for about 2 months and the issue began only within the last week.

Now I'm totally self taught on guitars & amps but I learned abit about them and know where the reverb unit is and roughly how it operates. I think the main thing to point out is that by wiggling and jostling the main wire that comes out from underneath the nice little leather pouch that protects the unit I am sometimes able to get the reverb functioning again. It could last a few minutes or a few hours before it decides to stop working which makes me think the issue lies in this little wire or its connection to either the amp or reverb itself.

My problem is that although this seems a minor issue to me, it may very well not be. I called Andertons where I got the amp and the repair time they gave me is 3 weeks, which is not a time scale I would like to be without my amp for something that seems on the outside to be minor. However, tinkering with the amp myself, taking it to a local guitar or going round the my neighbors who builds amps himself to have a look would almost certainly void the years warranty I have (runs out august this year).

So what should I do? Bite the bullet and send it back or take a look myself?

Be sure reverb wire are well connected at the rear of the amp . Unplug and plug few time to be sure RCA connector are clean. Be sure all tubes are well seated in their socket

If you are sure anything hapened to the amp , like you drop it , Reverb wire squeeze...

There nothing you can do for you . If it still on waranty bring it to the store.

Hello,
the BDIII uses a TL072 op amp in it's send and receive circuit and is different than some other amps, (down the road consider either a TLE2072 (drop in) or an opa2134 (Pdip) (should drop in have not tried in this circuit) swapped in...a nice improvement..

but your problem seems to be the crappy rca connectors and wiring (the connectors on the reverb wires are of thin metal and the ground connection can be very bad because the 4 "grabbers" on the rca connection that crates the ground bond (connection) bend and get loose and all sorts of hideous stuoopid stuff can result...as in your amp...SO if keeping the amp i would suggest a simple fix (without using a soldering iron, drill or dynamite..

background...the reverb tank is a Belton...for some reason they changed construction...but we are worried about the connection...as i stated i have found the as supplied cable for send and return (today's only...check out an old twin reverb or BF amp)...totally different wire and reason....but

what i did since i have a ton...i took out the original wiring ...and simply used a nice RCA shield pair (i used a monster i had laying around with REALLY good rca connectors so good they are damn hard to remove the connectors from the amp or reverb tray (that is what you want)

the tray is easy to get to...OBSERVE in's and outs so you do not reverse the two wires...in/out etc and your problem will go away more than likely (hey have any of the rca wires that may have come with a stereo component, or some musical thang? try those...

i have some cable company wires laying around every time you swap cable boxes they give me cables of HIGH quality...strip off the audio pair (red and white connectors) the yell or RGB are of a different impedance (wires) use the audio pair and have at it.

Yeah, i know bean counters and investors want their dough...SO the consumer is faced with whatever crap they hang on amps etc to make the bean counters happy per unit cost...the cables used on my PRRI,Supersonic 22 and Vibro king...all have been replaced with a Superior wire set and no problems at all (also cleaned all with Deoxit D...5% then laid some 100% on them and the tube sockets and tube pins all connectors....sweetness

Good luck (so all of my new fenders have monster or comparable rca shielded cables on the amps)..shorter the better- some hard core dudes...solder the connector to the tray....connectors...not needed  8) (soon i am going to shorten all of those cables)..
