I own a Roland Jazz Chorus JC 77. Very nice amp for cleans and chorus. And for $250, a steal.

Only complaint is the volume doesnt go up high enough for some of my larger gigs. So on a whim I ran a Ibanez TS as a clean boost. At 25% drive/gain and 50-75% volume, it boosts the volume cleanly.

Anyone else use an overdrive pedal as a clean boost ?

I believe SRV used to use his overdrive as a clean boost. I tried it w/a Bad Monkey overdrive. It worked fine.

Fairly common use of an OD pedal. TGP is filled with threads about using one this way.

Yep. I've used a Keeley-modded TS9 for this purpose. However, I've since found a clean boost pedal does the job better with less "other" coloration and works for me on more amps. The TS9 is fine on 6V6, but I hate it on 6L6. But that's me.

I'm always a fan of using pedals for their intended and not so intended purposes. If it sounds good to you, it is good! (Thanks to Joe Meek for that one).

For a cleaner boost (than a TS9) try an MXR m-133 micro amp boost pedal. Only knob is for volume of boost. No coloration.
