Hi everyone, I'm wondering if someone might have had the same issue as I'm having with my amp. It seems that the volume on my amp is way too loud even on the number 1 setting. I thought it might be a problem with the volume pot so I took the amp apart and removed the volume pot to check it. I has good resistance from zero to about 50Kohm as per it's range. Other than that I see a couple of ceramic resistors which have kind of broken down probably due to heating and cooling maybe. On the PCB I see some traces under the board which are burnt from the diodes coupled to the ceramic resistors. Other than that I'm not sure what the issues may be. Perhaps maybe the amp is just loud. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thankyou.

Hi sgrondines,

Have you tried the "Lo Input"?

I didn't know there was a low input. I got this amp a long time ago with no manual, which I just aquired recently, but haven't had a chance to thoroughlty go over. When I bought the amp the guy said it was just too dam loud for what he was now doing. I remember playing one night at a bar with the amp and I barely had it turned up like one or two and people were complaining that it was too loud. That's why I'm wondering if something was blown and passing high voltage through to the speakers. It doesn't sound bad, just loud.

Any thoughts?

Of the two inputs for instrument, the "Lo" input is attenuated and using it will give you somewhat less volume than the "Hi" input. Compare the sound using each input. In addition, according to the schematic, using a 4 ohm speaker cab will give you 94 watts out while using an 8 ohm speaker cab will give you 69 watts out.

What impedance speaker cab are you using? 4, 8 ohm? Use the Lo input and an 8 ohm speaker cab should tame the volume a bit. Might not be a huge difference, but maybe enough.
