I've had a Greta for just over a month and have managed to find a matching Greta 112 Cab which is on it's way to me now.

I've never had a separate cab before so am confused about how much power I'll get - if the output of the Greta is 2W and the cab is rated at 80W then what will be the output compared to a combo amp?

Sorry if this is a dumb question!

Two watts.

Yeah, I would like to see that too. Do you have a link depressed_toad?

Found it!

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/amplifie ... er-cabinet

Zero information listed. Don't know what makes it different form any other Fender 1x12 except it says "Greta" instead of "Fender" on the front.

Bet it's the same as the Super Champ cab, just a different color and name plate:

It will be a vastly improved two watts though. Low wattage amps just sound good through big speakers. Like Arjay said, the amps wattage will not change but, it will be perceived as being louder because you'll be pushing more air.

If it has the 12" Celestion® G12P-80 like in the Super Champ cab, it should sound pretty good. That's what I play my modded 5-watt C600 through in a Raven cab. I cut the bottom 1/3rd of the cab off to make it an open back because the bass was overwhelming.

Thanks for the replies.

Never had a separate cab before and got confused with the speaker being 80W, I suppose it makes sense that the output would be 2W if that's what's coming from the Greta.

Those 2 watts are pretty loud though, I daren't turn it up higher than 3 :D

Forgot to say that it's definitely a Super Champ SC112 cab, it's a great way of getting a low powered tube setup.

Here's a pic btw:

I guaranty you'll dig it. Small amps through big speakers, can't beat it with a stick.

I tried my modded C600 through the 4x12 Crate cab that I have waiting for my next amp build, but the C600 just couldn't push those little electrons hard enough to move all those speakers. The C600 sounds much better through my 1x12 cab. :D

One big criticism of the Greta that I've read is that the little combo speaker is inadequate to take the 2 watts. This fixes that! That is just so wild looking. A Greta stack is a real smoking look. I wonder who designed the Greta combo and where they got their inspiration?

Arjay is right it is still gonna be 2 watts.

The 4" Greta speaker is really good for getting a low volume, dirty Black Keys kind of sound.

Plugging into the cab is good for clean sounds, I don't think I'll ever be able to turn it up enough for the 12" speaker to break up though :(

There are three kinds of distortion. Each has its own sound - Pre-amp distortion, caused by overloading the pre-amp tubes. Power amp distortion, cause by overloading the power amp tubes. And, speaker distortion, cause by trying to make the speaker move further than it can.

When you use the built-in speaker of the Greta, you're getting all three types of distortion, and this gives it a distinct sound. When you use the Greta with an external speaker, you can get pre-amp distortion and power amp distortion by turning it up all the way. If you're going into a speaker that is designed to handle four watts or more, you will get very little speaker distortion. When you use the Line Out on the Greta like a tube distortion effect, you will only get pre-amp distortion. All three sound different, and all three are interesting. It really depends on what you like.

Has anyone seen a Black Greta cabinet, or did they only make matching red ones with the Greta badge?
