Hi Everybody,

I just got a new C600 and am thrilled to bits over the clean sound, which is really what I bought it for. The cranked dirty sound, and OD pedals, not so much. But I have my Blackstar HT-1 for that, and may look into mods down the track.

However, the amp seems to have some basic design flaws that I haven't seen any other complaints about on the web. I was wondering if these are normal:

- It hums when on (I gather this is normal), but also hums when off, albeit much quieter. This is really annoying as I have to unplug it completely to stop it drawing power. Why doesn't the on/off switch actually switch it off?
- The power cord is really short, ie. 2ft. Really?
- The control panel gets really hot when running. There is also a feint burning smell.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am sorry, but this amp sounds like it needs to be return to where you bought it. There is an issue with the power switch portion of the amp. Which shuold have been caught by QA/QC.

I would not use it anymore. As it could be a fire hazard.

:(

Oh dear. You think I got a lemon? Returning/exchanging will be a problem as I bought it second-hand off the web.

That's what I get for trying to save $30 off retail *sigh*

Hi kinkynoah, and welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear about your amp problems and especially that returning or exchanging it may not be possible. I have a Champion 600 and although it hums a little when on, it's absolutely silent when powered off.

On the bright side there are many knowledgeable folks here - no, I'm not one of them - so if you could provide more details perhaps they will be able to help.

Cheers!
BM

The amp is defective. Unless you are comfortable working with high voltages, I suggest you attempt to get your money back.

Thanks for your replies guys.

I just texted the seller and he said the amp was purchased in the US and modified for Australian voltages! I was wondering what the extra transformer box was doing in there, and the too-short power cable!

The bugger probably did it to make a profit, as they retail for $280 here, and I bought it for $250. Hopefully he's an honourable guy and returns my money.

Thanks for confirming these problems aren't normal. I was kinda willing to live with it if it was, but now I know I have a fire hazard in my bedroom!

Do not use that amp unless it clearly states that the power tranny is rated for 50/60Hz use. I'm not sure what AU uses, but voltage swapping is not the issue. Cycles (Hertz) is.

If that is a 60Hz only tranny and it was modded for use in AU (which is prolly 50Hz), it could overheat and be damaged. Or have lead to overheated switches and wiring on your power circuit.

See Part 4 (FREQUENCY) of link:
